Abstract

The control unit is suitable for power-steering systems of motor vehicles. It contains in a housing (53) a rotatable main valve element (77) and a sequence valve element (79), which are mutually adjustable to a limited extent in both directions relative to a neutral position. A movable member of a metering device (29) for the pressure medium flowing through is coupled to the sequence valve element. The control unit has a pressure-medium inlet (119), a pressure-medium outlet and a first and second control pressure-medium connection (123R, 123L) which are connected to a control cylinder (39). The housing forms with the valve elements a first pressure-medium passage arrangement, by means of which the inlet (119L) is connected via the metering device (29) to the first control pressure-medium connection (123R) when the valve elements are adjusted in the one direction, and a second pressure-medium passage arrangement, by means of which the inlet connection (119R) is connected via the metering device to the second control pressure-medium connection (123L) during a valve adjustment in the other direction. The two passage arrangements have, for the pressure-medium flows via the metering device, the same flow resistance during each adjustment of the valve elements, as a result of which a uniform response behaviour is achieved and precession movements of the steering wheel are prevented. <IMAGE>
