Abstract
The coating of a thickness from 0.1 to 50 mu m consists of sintered materials and 0 to 30% of metallic additives. The sintered materials can be carbides, nitrides, borides, silicides and oxides of elements from groups III to VI of the periodic table, individually or in the form of mixtures or solid solutions. The metallic additives can be copper, nickel, iron, cobalt, chromium, molybdenum or tungsten. The layer can be applied by known processes. The coating is scratch- and corrosion-resistant in daily use and has, depending on the sintered material, a pleasing inherent colour, so that it is particularly suitable especially for utensils which at the same time have a decorative character, such as, for example, dishes, ashtrays, belt buckles.
