Abstract

1511508 Hydraulic fluids and lubricants UNION CARBIDE CORP 25 June 1975 [26 June 1974 21 May 1975] 26928/75 Heading C5F [Also in Division C3] An alkoxysiloxane hydraulic fluid has the average formula RO(Me 2 SiO) n R wherein n is 5-200 and R represents the average of groups obtained by removing the OH groups from a mixture of alcohols having at least 10‹C atoms per molecule on average, a b.p. above 100‹C and a freezing point below -20‹C. In the Examples a neutralized hydrolysed Me 2 SiCl 2 is heated with a mixture of C 10 or C 13 (average values) alcohols ipo KOH in xylene. The products are used directly or after removing unreacted alcohol and hydrolysate, as hydraulic fluids. They are also useful as textile lubricants and mould release coatings.
