Abstract

1,209,909. Unsaturated ketones. ZOECON CORP. 30 Aug., 1967 [24 Feb., 1967 (3)], No. 21838/70. Divided out of 1,209,902. Heading C2C. The novel compound 6-ethyl-10-methyldodeca-5,9-dien-2-one is obtained by a method analogous to that used to prepare 6,10-dimethyldodeca - 5,9 - dien - 2 - one and comprising reacting the ethylene ketal of 1-bromo-4-pentanone with triphenyl phosphine to obtain 4-ketopentylidenephosphorane, reacting this Wittig reagent with methyl ethyl ketone to prepare the ethylene ketal of 6-methyl-5-octen-2-one which is hydrolysed to the ketone and reacted with a second mol. of the Wittig reagent to obtain the ethylene ketal of 6,10-dimethyldodeca-5,9-dien- 2-one which yields the ketone on hydrolysis. 6 - Ethyl - 10 - dodeca - 5,9 - dien - 2 - one is obtained by substituting 1-bromo-4-hexanone in the preparation of the first-used Wittig reagent in the above process sequence.
