Abstract
For the purpose of local electroplating of strip material (6), a rotating cylinder (3) having a locally enlarged diameter (4) at one end is immersed in a container (1) filled with plating solution (2). The surface of the cylinder consists of electrically non-conductive material. An anode (5) is immersed in the plating solution at a distance from the cylinder (3). As the cylinder (3) rotates, a layer (7) of plating solution is carried along which effects the conduction of a current between the anode (5) and the strip material (6). As a result of capillary action, a layer (8) is retained between the cylinder (3) and the strip material (6). The strip material (6) is moved axially with respect to the cylinder (3). Direct contact between the cylinder surface and the strip material (6) is thus avoided and the wear of the cylinder and the deposit is considerably reduced. Accordingly, the coatings from expensive metals electroplated onto electric components to improve contactability can be produced more cheaply, because a uniform layer can be formed even at small layer thicknesses. <IMAGE>
