Description

A clamp TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a clamp comprising a bracket , and a vehicle comprising a clamp.
BACKGROUND Within the automotive industry it is known to use brackets for arange of applications, such as e.g. holding hydraulic and electriccomponents in place in a vehicle. The brackets should be light andfunctionally versatile in order to enable attachment thereof todifferent structures in the vehicle. They are preferably made ofplastics and are preferably produced to a large extent by means of injection molding.
Prior art, such as defined by DE102007051330, discloses a clampwhich comprises a back wall and a first arm and a second armextending from that back wall. To the second arm there is attachedan articulated lever. A bolt extending through the back wallengages the lever. By means of screwing the bolt, the lever isforced to perform a swinging motion towards or away from the firstarm. The lever may thus engage any object, such as any structurein a vehicle, between the first and second arm. The lever isconnected to the second arm via rotational joint, and forms aseparate component in relation to the rest of the clamp, which hasto be produced separately from the rest of the clamp and to be attached thereto in a subsequent step.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION lt is an object of the present invention to provide an alternativeclamp design which enables production of the clamp in one singlestep, preferably by means of injection molding of a polymer oradditive manufacturing. The clamp shall be of a design which promotes a light-weight clamp and great functional versatility.
SUMMARY The object of the invention is achieved by means of a clampcomprising a bracket which comprises: - a wall comprising a hole configured for engagement with anelongated fastener, - a first arm connected to and extending from the wall in a firstdirection, - a second arm connected to and extending from the wall in saidfirst direction, with a distance to the first arm, and - a flexible element which has a first end which is connected to thewall and/or the second arm and a second end which is supportedby the second arm, wherein the second end of the flexible elementis slidingly arranged in relation to the second arm in the firstdirection and defines an arc directed towards the first arm, whereinthe second end of the flexible element comprises a hole which, inan operative position of the flexible element, is in alignment with the hole in the wall.
There may be free space between the hole in the wall and the holein the second end of the flexible element, thereby enabling an elongated fastener to protrude through both holes. The proposed clamp design enables production of the bracket in one single pieceother conceivable(Al\/I). As a consequence of the design of the clamp, an elongated element, in one single injection molding step or technique, such as additive manufacturingsuch as a bolt or screw, extending through the hole in the wall canengage the hole provided in the second end ofthe flexible element, which is in alignment with the hole in the wall. By e.g. screwingthe bolt or screw, or a nut arranged on the bolt or screw on oneside of the flexible element, the second end of the flexible elementmay be forced to move in a direction towards or away from the firstend of the flexible element, whereby the height of the arc, andthereby the distance thereof to the first arm, is changed, and aclamping force may be applied to any structural element located between the flexible element and the first arm.
According to one embodiment, in an operative position, the bracketis configured to accommodate an elongated fastener extendingthrough the hole in the wall and through the hole in the second endof the flexible element. According to one embodiment theelongated fastener comprises a threaded bolt or nut. According toone embodiment, the hole in the second end of the flexible elementhas a g threading correspondin to the threading of the bolt or nut.According to one embodiment, in an operative position, the bracketis configured to accommodate a nut which engages an end of the elongated fastener.
According to one embodiment, the second end of the flexibleelement is connected to the second arm via a form fit joint, enabling displacement of the second end of the flexible element in said first direction in relation to the second arm and preventing displacement of the second end of the flexible element in a seconddirection perpendicular to the first direction in relation to thesecond arm. Thereby, further stability of the bracket is obtained. The second end of the flexible element need not necessarily be inconnection to the second arm via the form fit joint as a result of aninjection molding or AM technique, but may easily be inserted intosuch engagement in a subsequent step, for example manually.
The second arm may e.g. comprise a recess adapted toaccommodate a protruding element arranged on the second endof the flexible element, or vice versa. Thereby the form fit joint isformed when the the protruding element of the second end of theflexible element is accommodated in the recess of the second arm (or vice versa).
According to one embodiment, the form fit joint is a dovetail joint.Thereby displacement of the second end of the flexible element insaid first direction in relation to the second arm is facilitated whiledisplacement of the second end of the flexible element in anydirection other than the first direction is prevented. Thereby theclamp and bracket will exhibit further stability when performing a clamping action.
According to one embodiment, the first end of the flexible elementis adjacent to or connected to the wall and the second end of theflexible element is remote from the wall. Thereby manufacturing ofthe bracket in one piece through e.g. injection molding isfacilitated. Moreover, manufacturing of the bracket in one single step is facilitated.
According to one embodiment, there is a spacing between the walland the second end of the flexible element. The spacing may belarge enough to enable a nut to be positioned in said spacing, thereby enabling attachment of the wall of the bracket to anysuitable structure by means of a bolt or screw extending throughthe hole and without involving the flexible element in that specificclamping. However, the invention does not exclude that the bolt orscrew also, simultaneously, engages the second end of the flexibleelement, and that, simultaneously, another structure is clamped between the flexible element and the first arm.
According to one embodiment, at least said wall, first arm andsecond arm, and preferably also the flexible element, form anintegrated part which is produced by means of injection molding ofa polymer. As an alternative, said integrated part is formed by additive manufacturing, i.e. 3d-printing.
According to one embodiment, the bracket comprises one or moreholders for the holding of elements to be carried by or fixed by means of the clamp.
According to one embodiment, on a side of the wall opposite to theside from which the first and second arms extend, there is provideda protruding heel. The heel may be used for preventing rotation ofthe clamp in relation to a structure to which the clamp is attached. The heel may also facilitate attachment of the clamp to thestructure by preventing rotation of the clamp relatively to thestructure during fastening of the clamp to the structure, e.g. byscrewing. Thereby the clamp may more easily be attached to the structure, e.g. using one hand.
The invention also includes a vehicle, characterized in that itcomprises a clamp according to the invention as disclosed hereinabove. According to one embodiment, the clamp is clamped to aflange of a vehicle beam member. The clamp may e.g. carry any of a pneumatic, a hydraulic and an electric component.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS An embodiment of the clamp according to the invention will now be presented with reference to the drawing, on which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a clamp according to the inventionFig 2 is a perspective view of the clamp in fig. 1 taken from anotherangle, Fig. 3 is a side view of the clamp, and Fig. 4 appficaüon. is a side view showing the clamp in an alternative DETAILED DESCRIPTION Figs. 1-3 show a clamp according to one exemplifying embodimentof the present invention. The clamp comprises a bracket 1 whichcomprises a wall 2 comprising a hole 3 configured for engagementwith an elongated fastener 4. The bracket 1 further comprises afirst arm 5 connected to and extending from the wall 2 in a firstdirection x, and a second arm 6 connected to and extending fromthe wall 2 in said first direction x, with a distance to the first arm 5 as seen perpendicularly to said first direction x.
The bracket further comprises a flexible element 7 which has afirst end 8 which is connected to the wall 2 and a second end 9which is supported by the second arm 6. The second end 9 of theflexible element 7 is slidingly arranged in relation to the secondarm 6 in the first direction x and defines an arc directed towardsthe first arm 5. The second end 9 of the flexible element 7comprises a hole 10 which, in an operative position of the flexible element 7, is in alignment with the hole 3 in the wall 2.
The second end 9 of the flexible element 7 is according to theembodiment shown in the Figs. 1-3 connected to the second arm6 via a dove tail joint, enabling displacement of the second end 9of the flexible element 7 in said first direction x in relation to thesecond arm 6 and preventing displacement of the second end 9 ofthe flexible element 7 in a second direction y and a third directionz in relation to the second arm 6. The second direction y and thethird direction z are perpendicular to the first direction x and to each other.
The first end 8 of the flexible element 7 is connected to the wall 2as well as the second arm 6, and the second end 9 of the flexible element 7 is remote from the wall 2.
The wall 2, the first arm 5, the second arm 6, and the flexibleelement 7 form an integrated part which may be produced bymeans of injection molding of a polymer. As seen in the Figs. thewall 2 and parts of the first arm 5 and the second arm 6 comprisea double wall structure having a first wall element and a secondintermediate cross elements that form a wall element with strengthening framework, resulting in a light-weight yet strong structure.
As is best seen in Fig. 2 the second arm 6 comprises a recess andthe second end 9 of the flexible element 7 comprises a protrusion. The recess and the protrusion in Fig. 2 are both shaped like a dovetail. However, it is to be understood that other complementaryshapes are possible. ln an operative position, in which the secondend 9 of the flexible element 7 is inserted in the recess in thesecond arm 6 such that said dove tail joint is formed, the bracket1 is configured to accommodate the elongated fastener 4extending through the hole 3 in the wall 2 and through the hole 10in the second end 9 of the flexible element 7. The elongatedfastener 4 is a threaded bolt. A head of the bolt 4 is positioned ona side of the wall 2 opposite the flexible element 7 and the firstand second arms 5, 6. A nut 11 is provided on a remote end of thebolt 4, such that rotation of the nut 11 on the bolt 4 will result ineither reduction or increase of the distance between the first end8 and the second end 9 of the flexible element 7. Thereby, sincethe flexible element defines a flexible arc, the distance betweenthe flexible element 7 and the first arm 5 will decrease or increase.A clamping force may thus be generated onto any element located between the flexible element 7 and the first arm 5.
As can be seen in the drawing the bracket comprises holders 12for the holding of elements to be carried by or fixed by means ofthe clamp. The holders 12 comprise holes for the reception ofscrews for the holding of cable ties or the like. Other types of holders are, of course, also conceivable.
Between the wall 2 and the second end 9 of the flexible element 7there is provided a spacing which is large enough to accommodatea nut 13 (see fig. 4). Thereby, attachment of the bracket 1 to astructure extending between the wall and the head of the bolt 4,on the opposite side of the wall in relation to the arms 5, 6 and theflexible element 7, is enabled, provided that such structure is provided with a hole through which the bolt can extend.
On a side of the wall 2 opposite to the side from which the first andsecond arms 4, 5 extend, there is provided a protruding heel 14.The heel 14 may be used for preventing rotation of the clamp inrelation to a structure 15 to which the clamp is attached or beingattached to. Preferably the structure 15 is provided with a recess(not shown) with which the heel 14 engages. The wall 2 may belocally flexible in the region of the heel 14, thereby enabling thelatter to retract or deflect into a position in alignment with thesurrounding surface of the wall, if there is no recess provided insaid structure 15 and the structure 15 thus forces the heel 14 to such retraction.
