[Also in Division B5] Paper made of aromatic palyamide fibres has a bonding layer of one or: more organosilicon compounds comprising groupings capable of bonding to the polyamide paper and groupings capable of bonding to organosilicon resins or organosilicon elastomers, the layer being applied to the paper using a swelling agent for the polyamide. A layer of an organic polysiloxane resin of elastomer containing a cross-linking agent may be applied to this organosilicon layer. The swelling agent present may be an amide of a lower alkanoic acid or 2-N-methylpyrrolidone. The organosilicon copolymer composition may be diluted with a diluent inert to the polyamide and compatible with the silicon compound. The diluent may be a lower alkenyl having 1-4 carbon atoms. The paper may first be treated with the swelling agent and then the organosilicon bonding composition of the swelling agent and organosilicon bonding compound applied directly to the paper. The top coating of organosilicon resin or organopolysiloxane convertible into an elastomer may be heated until the surface is non-sticky in the cold, but still is completely cross-linked and adhesive at elevated temperatures. The aromatic polyamide may be poly(m-phenylene isophthalamide). The organosilicon compound may be an (aminoalkyl)-trialkoxy silane or an [(aminoalkyloxy) alkyl]trialkoxy silane alone or mixed with a vinyl-trialkoxysilane.
