Abstract

1,125,187. Opening containers; packages. U. WAGNER. 16 Nov., 1966 [16 Nov., 1965; 5 Feb., 1966], No. 51304/66. Headings B8C and B8D. A container suitable for use in storing and heating food is formed of aluminium foil or similar material and has a cover 1 with incisions 5 adjacent its corners so that when a pull tab 3, folded back on to the cover 1, is raised and disengaged from round a side edge of the container the incisions 5 form starting points for tear lines 6 extending adjacent other side edges of the cover. A stiffening groove (13) may be formed in the cover, Fig. 1 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the tab (3<SP>1</SP>) extends round the adjacent corners of the cover, the incisions (8) being on opposite sides of the cover. Again, Fig. 10, incisions at the end of the cover are directed outwardly, i.e. towards the, adjacent corners, thereby creating ears 11 which can be used for removing the side portions of the cover remaining after the main centre portion has been torn out. The cover may be differently coloured on its upper and lower sides in order to distinguish the tab when turned over.
