Abstract

1,175,739. Laminates. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. 27 April, 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 19396/67. Heading B5N. A disposable fabric substitute material of good wet strength comprises one or more layers 3, 4 (Fig. 1) of a soft, flexible, fibrous cellulose material, e.g. soft paper, and a layer of a liquid impermeable thermoplastic material 1, between which is embedded a wide mesh net with a tensile strength per single thread of at least a hundred grams, a thread diameter of not more than 0À7 mm. and at most 10,000 meshes per dm<SP>2</SP>. Preferably, the thread strength of the net is at least 200 grams, the diameter of the thread not more than 0À3 mm. and the number of meshes per dm.<SP>2</SP> not more than 1000. A paper layer may also be incorporated on the outer side of the thermoplastic layer. The thermoplastic layer may be a homo- or a copolymer of ethylene, propylene, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride, a polyester or polycarbonate, or a mixture of two or more of those substances. The net material is made from fibres of cotton, rayon, polyamide, polyethylene or polypropylene. The material may be produced by extruding the thermoplastic material from a heated hopper 22 (Fig. 3) between the nip of rolls 25, 26 through which webs of net and paper are fed from rolls 24, 27. The roll 25 is cooled. Alternatively, thermoplastic material may be heated and melted by counter rotating rolls, Fig. 4 (not shown). The thermoplastic material may also be laminated to the paper and net webs in the form of preheated, preformed sheeting.
