Abstract

A device for measuring electric voltages or other quantities such as the dimensions of a test piece after translation thereof into corresponding voltages comprises an electric circuit including two capacitors 1, 2 and a rectifier 4. The capacitors 1, 2 are charged to an input voltage Uv proportional to the instantaneous magnitude of the measured dimension of e.g. a test piece. When the measured dimension is a maximum, giving a voltage U max, switches 11, 12 are reversed to disconnect capacitor 1, short circuit rectifier 4 and remove the short circuit from a rectifier 5 so that as the voltage Uv drops the voltage across capacitor 2 follows it until the input voltage is a minimum U min. The difference between the voltage of the capacitor 1, U max and the voltage of the capacitor 2, U min shown as Uo may be measured in known manner and the capacitors 1, 2 may be connected in series by switches 21, 22 to give a voltage U min + U max shown as Us2 which is equal to double the mean voltage Us. In a modification, Fig. 1b (not shown) the function of rectifier (4) is reversed by switches (13), (14) so that it may be used instead of rectifier 5 to regulate the voltage of capacitor (2) to the minimum voltage.
