C. peak voltmeter is of the type where the input is applied to a peak to peak rectifier circuit, the voltage across which is set up across a condenser 4 and applied to an emitter follower 5 which has a meter 6 in its emitter circuit. When measuring peaks in a low frequency signal, a large capacitor 4 is required, and the voltage across it takes a long time to decay if the input is suddenly removed or falls rapidly. The invention provides an additional discharge path for the condenser 4 in these circumstances, so that this time is substantially reduced. When the input starts to fall, so does the potential at the emitter of transistor 5, and this is transferred via condenser 11 to switch on a normally cut off transistor 12. The potential change at the collector of this switches on a normally cut off transistor 13, which provides a low impedance discharge path for the condenser 4, so that a cummulative action rapidly builds up until the charge on 4 corresponds to a new lower input.
