Abstract
1380505 Detecting signal peaks RCA CORPORATION 21 March 1972 [29 March 1971] 13076/72 Heading H3T A circuit for detecting the peak of a signal comprises two transistors Q 1 , Q 2 having a common source impedance 13, a D.C. path from a signal input terminal to the gate of Q 2 and a path from the terminal to the gate of Q 1 which provides a voltage representative of the signal peak value whereby current in Q 2 follows the input-signal until Q 2 is cut-off. As described, the values of resistors 13 and 15 are so chosen that the source voltage of Q 2 does not follow its gate voltage and the current in Q 2 therefore follows the input signal until the gate voltage of Q 2 rises above the peak representing voltage stored on capacitor 20. This is below the peak signal level by the small voltage drop in a lightly conducting diode 11 so that Q 2 cuts off near the signal peak and provides an output via Q 3 . In Fig. 1 (not shown) transistor Q 1 has its gate and drain shorted together.
