Abstract
964,906. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. May 18, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 18107/61. Heading H2A. In a dynamo-electric machine the rotor or commutator is cooled by liquid circulating through channels 32 formed by inwardly directed grooves in an annular cooling body located within the rotor. Fig. 4 shows a commutator in which segments 26 having cooling fins 36 are insulated by mica at 29 and by silica gel, quartz or silicone rubber at 30. A cylinder 31 of brass, copper or stainless steel has a helical groove 32 which, after the cylinder 31 has been soldered, welded or shrunk on to the hub 35, forms a duct for cooling water admitted by channels 33, 34. Use of a helical duct in the rotor may obviate the need for a cooling liquid pump. Grooves 32 may be parallel and have communicating channels. A rust preventive may be added to distilled or commercial cooling water. Fig. 1 (not shown) relates to a D.C. motor having grooved cooling members located near the coil ends and in other parts of the rotor and stator. Specification 923,913 is referred to.
