[Also in Division H2] In an electric motor of a pump whose rotor is to be in contact with the pumped liquid, e.g. in central heating systems, both the squirrelcage winding of the rotor and a thin enveloping corrosion-resistant liquid-impermeable layer are formed by placing the laminated iron rotor core 2 in a cylindrical mould 1 and forcing molten or powdered copper or aluminium into the rotor slots 3 where it is solidified or sintered. The melt or powder is also forced into spaces at the ends of the mould for forming thick short-circuiting rings (4) on the rotor ends. The core is then machined, if necessary, and the envelope plated with nickel or chromium.
