Abstract

Direct current electro magnetic homopolar torque converter has two solid stationary magnetic circuits and two similarly solid rotors in the form of discs mutually connected mechanically and electrically. Two toroidal windings with D.C. derived from the rotors, provide excitation. Electrical connection between the rotor and stator is via a ring of an electrically conducting liquid metal running in a groove in the perimeter of the rotor. Mechanical coupling between the two rotors is via a vertical shaft, the excitation windings are mounted in the space between the cylindrical cores supported by the overall casing and the two rotors.
