Abstract

981,272. Ice-making. CHICAGO STOCK YARDS TURBO REFRIGERATING CO. Jan. 13, 1964 [Oct. 18, 1963], No. 1422/64. Heading F4H. In ice-making apparatus of the type comprising a plurality of vertically disposed freezing plates on one side of which an ice layer is formed, the ice layers are removed by spraying relatively warm water on to the other sides of the plates and differing amounts of water are sprayed on to each plate so that the ice layers are released at different times. As shown, water from a distribution tank 22 flows downwardly over the outer surfaces 16 of a pair of freezing plates 14 to form sheets of ice thereon. The ice-sheets are released by spraying water through apertures 30 in a pipe 28 on to the inner surfaces 34 of the plates, the apertures 30 being more numerous along one side of pipe 28 than along the other so that more water is supplied to one of the surfaces 34 than the other and the ice-sheets are released sequentially. The released ice-sheets fall on to shoots 70 and are delivered to a crushing member 74. Unfrozen water is collected in a trough 40 and delivered to a tank 46 which is disposed in a tank 44 and has a perforated bottom. A pump 63 is provided for withdrawing water from tank 44 and forwarding it to tank 22. Spray pipes 22<SP>1</SP> may be used instead of tank 22. In a modification (not shown) the apertures 30 along the sides of pipe 28 are numerically equal but of different size.
