Description
A system for providing a ground source of a vehicle TECHNICAL FIELD The present inventíon relates to a system for providing a reliable ground source of anelectrical configuration of a vehicle. The present inventíon also relates to a vehicle beingarranged with said system for providing a reliable ground source for power consuming units of said vehicle.
BACKG ROUND Vehicles of today, such as trucks, are equipped with various electronic devices or electricaldevices also denoted power consuming devices, such as actuators, control units, etc. Moreexamples of such power consuming devices may be a motor fan or an electrical wind screenheater. These power consuming devices of the vehicle may be powered by an electricalmachine being connected to an engine of the vehicle. Said power consuming devices mayalternatively be powered by an energy storage means, such as a separate battery or anelectrical storage means of a hybrid configuration being arranged for propulsion of the vehicle.
Said power consuming devices are today connected to a number of different ground sourcesfor providing a reference voltage of said devices. Today there is provided a number ofground points within the vehicle. Typically there is provided a number of electricalconnectors at predetermined locations within a cab of the vehicle. Each of said electricalconnectors is provided with a fixed number of terminals, wherein each terminal in turn is connected to a specific power consuming device by means of a suitable wire.
The required need for providing more ground terminals for providing ground access points iscontinuously increasing. This is due to the ongoing development of vehicles whereby moreand more electronic equipment is installed for each new generation/model of vehicles. Since each of said electrical connectors only is provided with a limited number of ground terminals, e.g. 21 ground terminals, which terminals further are dedicated to a specificelectronic device, a relatively low flexibility and configurability is achieved. lt may in fact sometimes be the case that all terminals of the electrical connectors are occupied. lt should be noted that said electrical connectors often are in the form of a plastic housingcomprising said terminals and are thus quite bulky. Due to the fact that said electricalterminals are provided at predetermined locations distributed within the cab of the vehiclesubstantial wiring is required for connecting each of said terminal and a respective powerconsuming device. This solution is bulky, in particular in an area at a dash board of the cab. This solution is also rather costly, since relatively long wires are required to connect said terminals with said power consuming devices.
Over time the electrical connections between said terminals and said wires the connectionsmay become loose, due to wear, oscillating environment, etc. This may lead to impairedoperation performance and possibly malfunction or failure of some of said power consuming devices.
US624906O relates to an electrical system for motor vehicle control, including a control processor which controls operation of electrically operated components of the vehicle.
