Abstract

An IR laser pointer comprises an IR laser diode (12), a power source (14) for providing electric current, and an energizing circuit (13, 15) for applying electric current from the battery to the IR laser diode for causing the laser diode to emit light. The energizing circuit is operable to apply a pulsating electric current form the power source to the IR laser diode for causing the IR laser diode to emit pulses of light. Control means (16, 17) are provided for adjusting the intensity of the light spot generated by the IR laser diode by pulse width modulation of the pulsating electric current.
