Abstract

An antifungal drug composition, and a drug delivery system for delivery of an antifungal drug composition, are described. The composition comprises Amphotericin B in an antifungally effective concentration, e.g. 0.1 - 10mg/L, in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a Na<+>, K<+>, 2Cl<-> cotransport inhibitor, e.g. Bumetanide, in a concentration reducing or abolishing the cytotoxic effects of Amphotericin B, in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The concentration of Bumetanide is e.g. 0.1 - 100 mu mol/L. A method of delivering Amphotericin B to a mammal, including a human, in need of antifungal treatment, and a method of reducing or abolishing the cytotoxic effects of Amphotericin B on eukaryotic cells are also disclosed.
