Abstract

FIELD: atomic power engineering. SUBSTANCE: process involves metallization of irradiated graphite with double and thin layer "copper-nickel" to ensure water tightness, minimization of leaching of radionuclides located inside and facilitated handling with them due to elimination of problems related to oiliness of surface. Metallization is conducted by the method of chemical autocatalytic reduction of salts of metal present on surface of graphite where catalyst was preliminarily precipitated and activated. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency.

Claims (1)

A method of applying a metallized coating to radioactive graphite from operating or dismantled nuclear plants is to metallize irradiated graphite with a double and thin layer of copper-nickel to ensure water tightness, minimize leaching of the radionuclides inside, and facilitate handling by eliminating problems associated with oiliness surface. Metallization is carried out by the method of chemical autocatalytic reduction of metal salts located on the surface of graphite, where the catalyst was previously precipitated and activated.
