The essence of the invention: unbleached suspension pulp is washed with an aqueous solution of alkali in a washing press with bringing to a uniform distribution of the first amount of alkaline material in the fibrous mass. The consistency of the paper slurry at the exit of the wash press is more than 18% (preferably 25 to 35% by weight). The high consistency paper suspension containing alkali is further treated with oxygen for delignification. The use of a flushing press allows you to reduce the total amount of alkaline material used in the processing of paper pulp, compared with the known methods, in the implementation of which the alkaline material is added to the pulp with low consistency. If necessary, the high consistency mass, prior to oxygen delignification, can be further treated with alkali, while bringing the total amount of batch-added alkaline material to 0.8 - 7% of the mass of kiln-dried paper suspension. After oxygen delignification, high-strength paper pulp with a low content of lignin is formed, which can be bleached to high brightness with reduced consumption of bleaching agents.
