The optical structure on its upper side has a microlens matrix and a microstructure located under the microlens matrix, when viewed from the upper side, which together with the microlens matrix forms a motif, at that the microlens of the microlens matrix are arranged in a pattern adapted to the microstructure. The invention relates to a security element for counterfeit papers, valuable documents or the like, with a front side and a back side supported by lamination and an optical structure that includes an upper side, a lower side and an optical element and forms visually perceptible from the top side motive.

In addition, the invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a security element for counterfeit papers, valuable documents or the like, in which a front-side and back-side backing is prepared, an optical structure is prepared which comprises an upper side, a lower side and an optical element and forms a sign visually perceived from the upper side, and lamination is applied to the base.

Objects to be protected are often provided with a security element that allows authentication of the object and at the same time serves as protection against unauthorized copying.

Objects to be protected are, for example, tamper-proof papers, identification documents and valuable documents (such as banknotes, chip cards, passports, identification cards, identification cards, stocks, bonds, letters, coupons, checks, entrance tickets, credit cards, medical records, ...), as well as product protection elements, such as, for example, labels, prints, packaging.

The protection of the security element from counterfeiting is especially great when the security element shows perceived motives that are reproduced by means of an optical effect that cannot be reproduced with the copied motive.

The combination of microstructural elements with microlenses located above them, which display microstructural elements with magnification, turned out to be especially protected from counterfeiting. In this case, the so-called moire effect can be used. Therefore, such security elements are also called “modulo display” or “moire enlarger”. An exemplary description of such a security element is found in WO2008 / 031170 Al, according to which microlenses and microstructures are formed by using an embossable varnish. Such optical structures are not reproducible by conventional copying processes, since an optical image can be formed, first of all, depending on the angle of view. For this, for example, the orthoparallactic effect is known.

Of course, for this protection against counterfeiting, an optical image is required, and therefore optical elements are necessary, for example, in the form of the specified microlens. Their imaging effect, as a rule, determines that the optical elements, for example microlenses, have an uneven surface. Therefore, the front side of the optical structure is generally non-planar. Therefore, undesired reproduction of optical elements by surface matrices cannot be ruled out.

Therefore, the basis of the invention is the task of improving the security element of this type so that the protection against counterfeiting is enhanced.

This problem is solved by means of a security element for counterfeit papers, valuable documents or the like, with a front side and a back side supported by lamination and an optical structure that includes an upper side and a lower side and an optical element located on the upper side, and forms a motif visually perceived from the upper side, the base having at least one window. In accordance with the invention, the optical structure on its upper side has a microlens matrix and located under the microlens matrix, when viewed from the upper side, the microstructure, which together with the microlens matrix forms a motive, the microlenses of the microlens matrix are located in a pattern adapted to the microstructure, and the optical structure on the back side of the base with its upper side laid over the window, so that the microlens matrix is in the window, and the motif is visually perceived from the front the side through the window, and the lamination is applied to the rear side and overlaps the lower side of the optical structure.

In addition, the problem is solved by means of a valuable document with such a security element.

The problem is also solved by a method for manufacturing a security element for counterfeit papers, valuable documents or the like, in which a front-side and back-side substrate is prepared, an optical structure is prepared which comprises an upper side and a lower side and an optical element located on the upper side, and forms a motif visually perceived from the upper side, lamination is applied to the substrate, and the prepared substrate has at least one window or is supplied with shey least one window. In accordance with the invention, the optical structure on its upper side is provided with a microlens matrix and located, when viewed from the upper side, under the microlens matrix, the microstructure, which together with the microlens matrix forms a motive, the microlenses of the microlens matrix are placed in a pattern adapted to the microstructure, the optical structure on the back the side of the base is placed with its upper side above the window, so that the microlens matrix is in the window, and the motif is visually perceptible with days hand through the window, and the lamination is applied on the rear side and overlapping the lower side of the optical structure.

In the following description of the invention, as well as in the above definition of the invention, different sides of the base and optical structure are distinguished by different concepts. The base has a front and rear side, the optical structure has an upper and lower side. This choice of concepts serves as a conceptual difference between the integumentary surfaces of the base and the optical structure, and otherwise should not mean any technical limitation.

Thus, the invention provides that the optical structure, which forms a motif especially protected from counterfeiting, is applied to the back side of the security element so that its upper side and, thereby, the motive produced by the optical structure are visible through the window in the security element when viewed from the front side of the protective element. At the same time, from the back side of the base, the optical element is covered by lamination. This design allows the incorporation of an optical element (for example, comprising a moire magnifier or a modular display device or other optically effective structures) into the security element. The underside of the optical structure is overlapped, which makes it difficult to access for unauthorized copying, for example, by means of matrixing. In addition, due to this, the lower side of the optical structure is protected from mechanical stress and chemical attack.

The same applies to the upper side of the optical structure. It is located in the window and therefore can only be matriced with great difficulty. At the same time, it is protected from contamination or the like, which is favorable, first of all, with optical elements provided on the upper side, which spatially protrude, for example, with microlens elements.

The optical structure on its upper side has optical elements. In the case of these optical elements, it is particularly preferred that we are talking about a microlens matrix that interacts with the microstructures located below when viewed from the upper side. Thus, a moire enlarger or modular display element can be implemented in the optical structure, as it is known from WO 2009/000528. As experience shows, such elements are especially well protected from fake. But in the case of the optical element of the optical structure, we can talk, for example, about the Fresnel structure or a hologram. As for the three-dimensional structure, first of all, the structure that is disclosed in DE 102009056934 can be applied. The content of the disclosure of the two publications mentioned in this paragraph is fully integrated.

For enhanced anti-counterfeiting protection, it is possible to color or stain microstructures that are laminated on the underside of the optical structure. This can occur by filling with ink, as described in WO 2005/052650, micro-gravure printing, as described in DE 1002006029852, or filling with nanoparticles or nanostructures. The publications referenced herein should be deemed to be fully involved in this description. It is also possible to provide the microstructures with a transparent or translucent metallization or a layered system that implements angle-dependent color properties (the so-called color change). In addition, it is possible to introduce microstructures using a varnish system, which has a difference in refractive index between the microstructures and the introduction of at least 0.3.

Particularly preferably, the optical structure can be provided in the form of a separately manufactured strip, which is then applied to the base. To further improve protection against counterfeiting, it is favorable, along with the optical structure, to provide another protective element in this band, for example, an additional hologram, in other places. Then it is visible only from the back side, since it is not above the window.

Of course, a strip can also be applied that has several optical structures, if several corresponding windows are made for this.

According to the invention, the overlapping of the optical structure on the back side of the substrate as an additional advantage has the advantage that printing is well applied to such a strip, since a single layer for accepting printing is available.

The security element may be made primarily in the form of a security thread, a tear-off thread, a protective tape, a protective strip, a sticker or a label for applying to counterfeit paper, a valuable document or the like.

Here, the term “anti-counterfeit paper” is meant, first of all, as yet not capable of circulation, the preliminary stage of a valuable document, which, along with the security element according to the invention, can also have, for example, other signs of authenticity (such as, for example, provided in volume luminescent substances). Valuable documents here mean, on the one hand, documents made from counterfeit paper. On the other hand, other documents and objects may also be valuable documents, which may be provided with a security feature according to the invention so that the valuable documents have uncopyable signs of authenticity, which makes it possible to verify authenticity and at the same time prevent unwanted copying.

The manufacturing method according to the invention can be improved so that the described preferred options and forms of implementation of the protective element are manufactured.

It is understood that the above and yet to be explained below features are applicable not only in these combinations, but also in other combinations or on their own, without going beyond the scope of the present invention.

For better presentation, shapes are not strictly scaled. In addition, partially hatching is not shown in order to more clearly show the structure of the corresponding protective element. Otherwise, elements that are functionally and / or structurally identical or correspond to each other in different forms of implementation, have the same reference designation in all figures, respectively, in order to avoid repetitions in the description. In the description, one side is called the front side, and the other is called the back side. In order to distinguish, one side of the optical structure is called the lower side, and the other the upper side. This convention serves only a simpler understanding and should not be a limitation from the point of view of the design and / or use of the protective element.

In FIG. 1 is a top view of banknote 1, viewed from its front side 2. On the front side 2 of banknote 1, motive 3 is visible in window 4 of banknote 1.

In FIG. 2 shows a banknote 1 from its rear side 5. A strip 6 is applied to this rear side, which, inter alia, covers the window 4. This strip 6 contains an optical structure, which is explained below in sectional view of FIG. 3, which shows a section along line AA of FIG. 2. The position of the optical structure and, thus, the window 4 is marked on the figure by strokes.

The banknote 1 was created on the basis of 7, in which the window 4 is made (for example, by cutting), preferably after the film has been glued to the front side 2. However, gluing is only required when a suitable film is desired on the front side. However, the structure of the front side 2 for the security element described here does not matter. Then, on the rear side 5 of the base 7, a strip 6 is applied so that the optical structure 8 is above the window 4.

The optical structure 8 of the strip 6 is created as follows. On its upper side 15 it has microlenses 9, which were obtained, for example, by embossing the corresponding layer of plastic. Microlenses 9 are located above the distance material 10, which is optically transparent and is implemented, for example, in the form of a plastic film. On the back side of the opposite upper side 15 of the lower side 14 of the optical structure 8 there are microstructural elements 11. The geometric arrangement or the form of execution of the microstructural elements 11 and the pattern in which the microlenses are located are coordinated so that when viewed from the upper side, a perceived motive is obtained . So the optical structure 8 can implement, for example, the known moire enlarger.

After the strip 6 is laid on the rear side 5 of the base 7 so that the optical structure 8 with its upper side 15, that is, the side with micro lenses 9, is located above the window, on the rear side 5 by means of an adhesive varnish 12a, as well as a film 13a, lamination. This lamination is applied to the rear side 5 so that the lower side 14 of the optical structure 8 is closed, that is, it is not open. In this case, lamination by means of adhesive varnish 12a and film 13a may correspond to lamination by means of adhesive varnish 12b and film 13b on the front side 2 of banknote 1.

In FIG. 4 shows a sectional view similar to FIG. 3, but along line BB of FIG. 2, i.e., a section plane that does not pass through the optical structure 8. As shown in FIG. 4, the strip 6 in these regions consists essentially exclusively of a film, which in the region of the optical structure serves as a distance element 10. In addition, another holographic structure 16 is made on the film, which, with appropriate transparency of lamination (layers 12a and 13a) is visible from the back side 5 of banknote 1. Thus, the strip 6 is the cause of the motive visible on the front side, which is formed by the optical structure 8, but at the same time the reason for the holographic structure 16 created on the back her side of the motive.

Claims (11)

1. Security element for security papers, securities or the like, with:
having a front side (2) and a rear side (5) with a base (7) deposited on the base (7) by lamination (13a, 12a), and an optical structure (8) that contains the upper side (15) and the lower side (14) and an optical element (9) located on the upper side, and forms a motive (3) visually perceived from the upper side (15), the base (7) having at least one window (4), characterized in that:
the optical structure (8) on its upper side (15) has a microlens matrix (9) and located under the microlens matrix (9), when viewed from the upper side (15), the microstructure (11), which together with the microlens matrix (9) forms motive (3), wherein the microlenses of the microlens matrix (9) are located in a pattern adapted to the microstructure (11),
the optical structure (8) on the back side (5) of the base (7) is placed with its upper side (15) above the window (4), so that the microlens matrix (9) is in the window (4), and the motif (3) is visually perceptible on the front side (2) through the window (4), and
lamination (13a, 12a) is applied to the rear side (5) and overlaps the lower side (14) of the optical structure (8).
