Abstract
Description
The invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology and can be used when instilling a drug into the eyes.
Most people have difficulty dropping drops into their eyes. Eyes are very sensitive parts of the body, and it is difficult for some patients to control reflex blinking when drops are instilled into them. Patients using eye drops often have low vision. Weak vision creates difficulty in locating the tip of the drip dispenser above the eye and often leads to improper instillation of drops on the nose or cheek. In addition, it is often difficult for older people to hold the drip dispenser evenly, as well as squeeze the vessel to use the right amount of medication. Even if the liquid drug is correctly instilled into the eye, the effectiveness of this drug is limited. The minimum volume of a drop of liquid drug that can usually be brought into contact with the eye at a time is approximately 30 μl. Any amount that exceeds approximately 25 μl usually flows down the eyelids on the cheek, as this is the maximum volume that the eye can usually control. When applying eye drops, blinking and concomitant natural lacrimation limit the time to a few minutes when the liquid drug remains effective.
In the available scientific, medical and patent literature, no information was found on the popularity of using an auxiliary device when instilling drug solutions into the eye.
The task is to create a device for the long-term content of medicinal solutions in the conjunctiva of the eye.
The technical result is the introduction and preservation on the mucous membrane of the eye of an effective amount of a drug solution by preventing the patient from blinking and the drug from flowing out of the eye.
The proposed device is made in the form of an
This device is used as follows. The patient, before instilling medicinal solutions into the eyes, first lowering the lower eyelid, and then lifting the upper one, inserts it into the palpebral fissure. In this case, the closing upper and lower eyelid abuts against the outer wall of the device, as a result of which the eyelids stop reflexively blinking due to their muscle relaxation. After which, instillation of medicinal solutions is carried out, as a result, the solution briefly remains on the mucous membrane of the eye, not draining from the palpebral fissure along the cheeks. The drug remains effective for a longer period of time, leading to the maximum benefit of dropping drops of the liquid drug into the eye using the proposed device.
Clinical example. A 46-year-old patient L. turned to the polyclinic with complaints of a feeling of fear of the light, redness of the conjunctiva, a feeling of itching, all of which connects with the ineffective use of medicines prescribed by the doctor.
Patient's diagnosis: conjunctival inflammation of the eye, photophobia.
After examining the conjunctiva by the doctor, it was recommended that the proposed device be used when instilling drugs.
The use of the device for instillation appointed course 10 days. Any complications with the use of the proposed device is not detected.
The proposed device was used in the ophthalmology department of the All-Russian Center for Eye Surgery and the clinic of surgical diseases and new technologies in 35 patients.
All patients with the instillation of drugs were satisfied with a simple and comfortable use of the proposed device.
