Abstract

SUBSTANCE: plastic jar lid contains a tubular body having an upper and a lower ends and connected to the upper o-ring wall forming the lid pressure-tight fitting socket via a double seam. Additionally the lid contains a detachable sealant element fixedly fitted into the socket. The sealant element outer edge projects radially outside the socket. The sealant element contains a visible breakage section whose lower skirt partly enclosing the tubular body upper end is strap-connected to the sealant element outer edge. The visible breakage section has a discontinuity stretching along at least part of the lower skirt height. The sealant section has a grip tongue on its outer edge passed through the visible breakage section discontinuity. The straps are arranged axially around the tubular body upper end periphery and serve to connect the lower skirt upper edge to the sealant element outer edge at points mutually spaced at a certain angle. The straps become destroyed when a certain pull force is applied to the them at the lid initial opening. The grip tongue is aligned with respect to the lower skirt with a clearance maintained between them. Technical field

The present invention relates to an improved plastic lid for closing a can made of a metal sheet containing a tubular body, the lower face of which is attached to the bottom wall or includes a bottom wall, the upper face of which bears directly using a deformed section of the tubular body or using an annular section of the upper walls, a nest for landing and holding the cover with a press fit. In particular, the invention relates to a plastic lid for the can described above, which is used for storing gradual consumption products, such as certain food products.

State of the art

Certain products, such as certain food products, should be stored under tight conditions and should be provided with a clear visible sign for the buyer, which indicates that the container in which they enter the market has not been damaged. Since many of these products belong to the gradual consumption category, it is necessary that after the container is opened for the first time, the lid, which allows access to the internal contents of the can, can be closed again as many times as needed during the gradual consumption of the stored product to ensure a tight seal again closed cans and protect its remaining contents.

In the international application PCT / BR03 / 00030 of this applicant, the construction of a plastic cover is described, comprising, in one detail, a sealing portion that is removably seated and held in a seat located in the middle in an annular upper wall having an outer edge forming a double seam with an upper the end of the tubular body, and a visible area of damage containing a lower skirt to fit around the upper end of the tubular body, and an upper ring, seated on the upper end of the tubular body and connected to the outside with the lower skirt and, on the inside, with the help of explosive radial jumpers, with the upper end of the sealing section, which protrudes radially outward from the nest. The visible damage site is a barrier extending across the width of the upper ring and along at least a portion of the height of the lower skirt, along which a gripping tongue is placed, which, if pulled, after the destruction of the visible damage site, allows easy and adjustable opening of the cover.

The above construction provides a resealable plastic cover of simple construction and relatively low cost, including a catch tongue that facilitates opening and a reliable sealing element that allows immediate damage to be seen.

The known technical solution described above, in particular, is suitable for closing cans used for storing products of gradual consumption, whose lids are not exposed during the closing, storage and loading operations of the above cans in the axial direction of opening with respect to other banks or storage means and loading.

Of these well-known cans, it is confirmed that when the lower skirt of the visible lesion is subjected to certain involuntary increasing axial loads and movements, at least part of the radial bridges that are closer to the area exposed to the above loads are destroyed, indicating, with the help of a partial (but visible ) damage to the sealing element, that the contents of the can were violated, which, in these cases, did not occur in reality.

The seal design described in the above application is subject to involuntary ruptures under certain loading conditions to which the can is subjected.

The purpose of the invention

The aim of the present invention is to provide a resealable plastic lid for the cans described above, having an improved design having a more visible damage section when exposed to the lid when exposed to certain loads and impacts when closing, storing and loading closed cans.

Description of the invention

This goal is achieved in that the plastic lid for the can contains a tubular body having a lower end and an upper end fastened by a double seam to the upper annular wall forming a seat for a tight fit of the lid, which contains, in one part, a sealing section, with the possibility of removal placed and held in the nest and having an external face protruding radially outward from the nest, a visible damage site comprising a lower skirt placed around a portion of the upper end of the tubular body and attached with the help of jumpers to the outer edge of the sealing section, while the visible damage section has a gap extending along at least a portion of the height of the lower skirt, the sealing section includes, in one part, a tongue passing through the gap of the visible portion of the damage on its outer edge , jumpers are located along the axis around the periphery of the upper end of the tubular body for connecting the upper face of the lower skirt with the outer face of the sealing portion at points spaced relative to ruga at a certain angle, and the jumpers are able to collapse when exposed to a certain pulling force that separates the visible damage site from the sealing area when the cover is first opened. According to the invention, the catch tongue is substantially aligned with the lower skirt and maintains a clearance with the lower skirt, and the lower skirt includes the ends of the web extending circumferentially at the gap of the visible lesion and along the catch tongue.

The outer end of the sealing portion may include a small cylindrical lower flap surrounding the periphery of the upper end of the tubular body from which the bridges hang.

The lower skirt may include an inner circumferential protrusion, axially removed from the outer edge of the sealing portion and sized to ensure its location and axial locking under the double seam around the tubular body.

The visible area of damage may contain at least one breaking lock connecting the grip tab to the lower skirt.

The first end of the jumper can be connected to the lower skirt by connecting means that are destroyed when the first end is separated from the lower skirt to release manual access to the gripping tongue.

The jumper may have a first end superimposed on the lower skirt and connected to it using two connecting means located at a distance from each other around the circumference.

The upper end of the sealing portion may include a circumferential upper rib protruding above the upper end of the tubular body and freely and slidingly placed in the lower end of another tubular body mounted on top of the tubular body.

The above-described axial arrangement of the bursting jumpers around the upper end of the tubular body of the can leads to the fact that these jumpers are subject to compressive forces, and not to pulling forces when moving the lower skirt upwards, when the cover hits any other element, which provides better resistance to the above forces and prevents their untimely the gap.

Description of an embodiment of the invention

According to the shown embodiment, the lid can be used for a sheet metal can containing a tubular body 10 with a lower end 11 fastened to the bottom wall 12 and an upper end 13 fastened with a double seam 14 to an annular upper wall 15, which forms slot 16 for a tight fit cover.

The annular upper wall 15 may be in the form of a ring, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, or in the form of an annular plate in large cans, such as 18 liter cans.

The design of both the upper annular wall 15 and the socket 16 can be obtained in various ways, providing for a tight and durable fit of the lid 20 on the upper part of the can. 4 and 5, the design of the annular upper wall 15 and the slot 16 is made as described and claimed in patent application PI 9408643-5, owned by the same applicant in Brazil and other countries (US patent No. 5899352 and European patent No. 0706486), and therefore will not be described in detail in the present description.

In accordance with the invention and as shown in the accompanying drawings, the cover 20 is preferably made of plastic material, transparent or opaque, and preferably comprises a sealing portion 21 of suitable construction that can be removably placed and held in the seat 16. The sealing portion 21 has an outer a face 21b located at the upper end 13 of the tubular can body 10. The cover 20 further comprises, in one part with the sealing portion 21, a visible damage portion 25 having a lower skirt 25a, which, as a rule, fits snugly around the periphery of the upper end 13 of the tubular body 10, more precisely its double seam 14, and has an upper end 25b, which is connected, by means of manually breakable jumpers 26, to the outer edge 21b of the sealing portion 21. The jumpers 26 connect the upper end 25b of the lower skirt 25a to the outer edge 21b of the sealing portion 21 at points that are apart from one another .

In accordance with the present invention, the webs 26 are destroyed when subjected to a certain pulling force that separates the visible damage section 25 from the sealing section 21 when the cover 20 is first opened.

The visible damage section 25 has a gap 25c extending along at least a portion of the height of the lower skirt 25a and forms a defined circumferential gap between the respective opposite faces of the lower skirt 25a on both sides of the gap 25c.

In accordance with the present invention, the sealing portion 21 includes a gripping tongue 27 extending axially downward through a gap 25c of the visible portion of the damage 25 and substantially aligned with the lower skirt 25a.

In the embodiment shown, the gripping tongue 27 extends along the entire axial extent of the lower skirt 25a, but can also protrude downwardly behind the lower skirt 25a.

In accordance with the present invention, the visible area of damage 25 comprises at least one tear lock 28 connecting the grip tab 27 to the lower skirt 25a. The gripping tongue 27 can be controlled manually only after breaking part of the visible damage section 25, for example, after breaking each breaking lock 28.

In the shown construction, the lower skirt 25a includes the ends of the jumper 25d extending circumferentially along the gap 25c of the visible damage section 25 and along the tongue 27. The jumper 25d has a first end 25e connected to the lower skirt 25a by means of connecting means 25f that break when the first one is torn off the end 25e from the lower skirt 25a, for example, when pulling out radially outward from it to provide manual access to the grip tab 27. In the embodiment shown, the jumper 25d has a first end 25e superimposed on the lower skirt 25a and connected therein by two connecting means 25f, spaced apart circumferentially.

The catch tongue 27 at the bottom is connected to the jumper 25d by means of a breaking lock 28 in the form of one or more axial jumpers that break manually when the cover is first opened.

The use of the gripping tongue allows easy movement of the sealing portion 21 from its position in the slot 16 and the lid is regulated and gradually opened, first in the area adjacent to the gripping tongue 27, and then in the remaining part of the socket, preventing the product from being unintentionally released from the can.

In accordance with the present invention, the grip tab 27 may have a fully or at least partially perforated shape, as shown in the above construction.

The catch tongue 27 may be integral and consist of a corresponding portion of the lower skirt 25a, remaining perfectly aligned with the latter and maintaining a gap 29 between them.

In the construction shown, the outer face 21b of the sealing portion 21 has a small cylindrical lower flap 21c that surrounds, preferably tightly, the periphery of the upper end 13 of the tubular body 10 and from which hangers 26 attached from below to the upper end 25b of the lower skirt 25a hang.

It is also possible, as shown, that the lower skirt 25a includes a circumferential inner protrusion 25h, which is axially removed from the outer edge 21b of the sealing portion 21 and is dimensioned to provide its location and axial locking under the double seam 14 on and around the upper end 13 of the tubular body 10 last one.

The outer face 21b of the sealing portion 21 includes an upper circumferential rib 25g, continuous or segmented, protruding above the upper end 13 of the tubular body 10 and freely or extensibly placed outside or inside the lower end 11 of the other tubular body 10 mounted above the tubular body 10.

In case the upper circumferential rib 25d has a diameter smaller than the diameter of the lower end 11 of the tubular body 10, it will be placed in the circumferential groove 12a made in the bottom wall 12, inside the lower end 11 of another tubular body 10 mounted on top of the above tubular body 10 .

Although the invention has been described in accordance with an embodiment of a can having only one structural form, it should be understood that changes can be made without going beyond the scope of the protection defined in the attached claims.

Claims (7)

1. A plastic lid for a can containing a tubular body (10) having a lower end (11) and an upper end (13) connected by a double seam (14) to the upper annular wall (15) forming a seat (16) for a tight fit lid, which contains in one part a sealing section (21), removably placed and held in the socket (16) and having an external face (21b) protruding radially outward from the socket (16), a visible damage section (25) containing the lower a skirt (25a) placed around part of the upper end of the tubular body (1 0) and connected by means of jumpers (26) to the outer edge (21b) of the sealing section (21), while the visible damage section (25) has a gap (25 s) extending along at least part of the height of the lower skirt (25a), the sealing section (21) includes, in one part, a gripping tongue (27) located on its outer face, passing through a gap (25 s) of the visible damage section (25), jumpers (26) are located axially around the periphery of the upper end (13) of the tubular body (10) for connecting the upper edge (25b) of the lower skirt (25a) with the outer edge (21b) of the seal the integral section (21) at points spaced relative to each other by a certain angle, and the jumpers are able to break when exposed to a certain pulling force that separates the visible damage section (25) from the sealing section (21) when the cover is first opened, characterized in that the grip tab (27) is substantially aligned with the lower skirt (25a) and maintains a gap (29) with the lower skirt, and the lower skirt (25a) includes the ends of the web (25d) extending around the gap (25c) of the visible portion (25) damage and catch tongue at (27). 2.
