Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of special electrometallurgy, namely to a vacuum arc remelting of highly reactive metals and alloys, and can be used to obtain ingots from titanium alloys.
The choice of a technological scheme for producing ingots depends on their purpose and quality requirements for semi-finished products made from them. For the bulk of the ingots, the main requirement is the purity of the metal from internal defects (shells, voids, pores), as well as the uniformity of the chemical composition and the efficiency of the ingot production process.
В. A known method of producing ingots of titanium alloys with a diameter of 650-850 mm, including portion pressing of a consumable electrode from loose components in the form of one block and its further double vacuum arc remelting with a pulsating magnetic field acting on the melting and crystallization zone (Titanium alloys. Melting and casting of titanium Alloys. Edited by VV Dobatkin. M., Metallurgy, 1978, pp. 265-306 [1]) - prototype.
The melting of a consumable pressed electrode at high arc currents (25 kA) leads to segregation of fusible elements such as iron from melilot to sprue, which then cannot be eliminated by subsequent remelting. In the second remelting, the ingot of the first remelting is welded to the cinder with a clover. As a result, fusible elements are smelted from a shrink shell and pores onto a pallet and immediately crystallize. Here, the liquid metal of the melted alloy crystallizes. The iron content reaches 2.2-3.0%, which significantly reduces the yield of lost wax ingots (150-350 mm from the lower end of the ingot goes into marriage).
In addition, the melting of the pressed electrode with a significant arc gap between the end of the electrode and the molten metal bath leads to spatter of the molten metal and the growth of the skull ("crown") to 400-800 mm, which, when melted, collapses and falls into the molten metal bath, thereby creating the volume of the ingot, which is heterogeneous in chemical composition, which is difficult to eliminate by subsequent remelting.
The problem to which this invention is directed is to increase the yield of lost wax by reducing casting defects and reducing segregation of low-melting elements such as iron.
The problem is solved in that in the method for producing ingots of predominantly titanium alloys, after inducing a bath of molten metal on a tray with a height of 150-200 mm, the volume of molten metal throughout the entire melting process is reduced by reducing the arc current to 7-10 kA and reducing the magnitude of the arc clearance up to 25-30 mm. In this case, the arc current is reduced or according to the expression: I g = I max • e -τ , where I max is the maximum arc current, kA; τ is the melting time of the electrode, h; or in steps, with the number of steps at least three. On the side surface of the electrode marks are made in the form of longitudinal welded plates with a thickness of 5-10 mm, and the process of melting of the electrode is carried out until the marks appear. The shrink shell is removed when exposed to an arc with an alternating magnetic field without visible melt movement. The remelting of the electrode is carried out on the reverse polarity and on a substrate with a height of 50-150 mm from the alloy that is smelted.
After fusion of the pressed electrode, a bright spot (mark) appears on the display of the visual control device for the melting process, which determines the beginning of the mode of removal of the shrink shell (VUR). In this case, the pulsating magnetic field is switched to an alternating magnetic field (20-40 Oe), which eliminates the negative effect of rotation of the liquid metal created by the pulsating magnetic field and reduces the segregation of alloying elements in the gate part of the electrode.
To exclude the growth of the “corona” and its fall into the molten metal bath, the consumable electrode is melted at the opposite polarity. In this case, the "crown" is practically not formed.
Examples of specific performance.
10. Pressed consumable electrodes were melted in a DTV-8.7-G10 vacuum electric arc furnace.
15. Example 1. Smelted pressed consumable electrode weighing 5000 kg of titanium alloy W15. A titanium plate 1000 mm long was welded on the lateral surface of the electrode, a longitudinal mark was 5 mm thick - to determine the moment of removal of the shrink shell (VUR). The electrode was loaded into a mold with a diameter of 705 mm, centered and welded to the electrode holder (cinder). To protect the pallet from submelting, the dilution of the molten metal bath was started on the substrate in the form of a template with a height of 120 mm and a diameter of 670 mm from the W15 melted alloy.
After all the preparatory operations, the furnace was evacuated, the furnace power supply was turned on to the reverse polarity (electrode plus, pallet minus) and the arc current was set to 5 kA, the arc gap was 30 mm. After heating the end of the electrode, the arc current was gradually increased by 5 kA (10 kA, 15 kA) and heated at each stage for 5 minutes. After diluting the molten metal bath on the pallet (melting the template), the arc current was gradually increased to 25 kA, the arc gap was 85 mm. The solenoid was turned on (current 5 A). After deposition of an ingot with a height of 150 mm, the arc current began to be reduced stepwise: at first it was reduced to 18 kA, then after 3.5 hours the current was reduced to 12 kA, after 1 h to 10 kA. After another 1 h, the melts, when a luminous spot (mark) appeared, switched over to the VUR mode (smooth decrease in current by 0.5 kA for 1 h). In this case, the power supply of the solenoid was switched from a pulsating current to an alternating current (magnetic field). At the same time, the arc gap was reduced to 25 mm. After the end of the VUR, the furnace was turned off at an arc current of 2.5 kA. The ingot was cooled in a vacuum oven for 3 hours. The melted ingot was prepared and melted into a mold with a diameter of 770 mm with an arc current of 12 kA in direct polarity.
The obtained ingot of the second remelting was of good quality, the yield increased by 2% due to a decrease in segregation and reduction of casting defects in the ingot of the first remelting.
Smelted pressed consumable electrode weighing 3800 kg of titanium alloy Ti 10 V 2 Fe 3 Al in direct polarity. The difference is that the arc current was reduced using a computer according to the expression: I g = I max • e -τ , where I max = 20 kA, τ = 8 hours. The value of the arc gap was also reduced using a computer depending on the strength arc current. When a luminous spot (mark) appears on the screen at the end of the electrode, they switched to the VUR mode (1 h). After cooling the ingot in the furnace (3 h), it was processed and re-melted into a mold with a diameter of 770 mm with an arc current of 16 kA.
The obtained ingot corresponded to the requirements of the customer, the yield increased by 2.5% due to a decrease in segregation and casting defects in the ingot of the first remelting.
The proposed method for producing ingots of predominantly titanium alloys allows eliminating the segregation of alloying elements such as iron, oxygen, etc. by reducing the volume of the molten metal bath and maintaining it in a quasi-stationary state by reducing the arc current and the arc gap, which eliminates premature volume crystallization of the ingot and the formation of casting defects such as shrinkage pores. The melting of the pressed electrode of the proposed method allows to eliminate the formation of the "crown", which reduces the quality of the ingot. The proposed method allows to increase by 2.0-2.5% the yield of lost wax ingots of the second remelting.
