Abstract
Description
The invention relates to metallurgy of cast iron and can be used to improve the mechanical characteristics of parts manufactured by casting.
[1]. It is known to use modifying mixtures to increase the whole complex of properties, including mechanical, castings from cast iron [1].
Closest to the claimed is a method of modifying cast iron with a mixture of iron oxides [2]. However, the level of increase in mechanical properties is insufficient.
The objective of the proposed method of modification is to improve the mechanical characteristics of cast iron.
The essence of the proposed method lies in the fact that the molten iron is treated with slag from the production of synthetic silumin in an amount of 0.5-1.2% by weight of the melt.
The use of slag from the production of synthetic silumin for processing cast iron melt allows cast iron to achieve a tensile strength of σ in = 393-420 MPa and a hardness of 445 to 450 HB.
Example. The chemical composition of cast iron used as a charge, the following, wt. %: carbon - 4.09; silicon - 0.53; Manganese - 0.76; phosphorus - 0.13; sulfur - 0.03; iron is the rest. Molten iron was melted and the melt was treated with slag from the production of synthetic silumin in an induction furnace with a capacity of 60 kg. The charge iron was melted and the temperature was adjusted to 1280 - 1350 o C, after which the slag was modified with the production of synthetic silumin in quantities of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.2% of the mass of the melt by mixing the slag into the melt for 5-10 minutes. After sedimentation of the melt and removal of slag, the samples were poured into a copper chill with a size of 170x120x15 mm. Samples were made of samples for metallographic analysis and testing of mechanical properties. The results are summarized in table. As can be seen from the above results, the effectiveness of this method of modifying cast iron is higher compared to the known method.
The proposed method of modification can be used to obtain castings from cast iron at metallurgical and engineering enterprises.
