The disadvantage of this alloy is that in slowly cooled castings (for example, in massive castings or in investment casting), a coarse-grained microstructure is obtained and, as a result, low values of heat resistance, mechanical properties of the alloy, and resistance of a cast tool made from it are obtained.
To improve the mechanical properties, heat resistance of the alloy and the resistance of the cast cutting tool from it, the proposed alloy containing carbon, manganese, silicon, chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, carbon, iron, additionally contains barium and sulfur in the following ratio of components, wt.

As an impurity, the alloy may contain phosphorus in an amount up to 0.03 wt.
In the composition of the proposed alloy there is no expensive tungsten, the alloy has improved mechanical properties and heat resistance compared to the analogue and prototype. For the manufacture of a cutting tool from the proposed alloy, you can use cast billets that are not subjected to hot plastic deformation. The cutting tool of the proposed alloy has a higher resistance.
1 и 2. The chemical composition of the known and proposed alloys and their corresponding properties are given in table. 1 and 2.
Smelting was carried out in open induction furnaces on a charge consisting of steel scrap, electrode battle and ferroalloys.
Billets with dimensions of 12x22x120 mm for cutting tools were obtained by investment casting; round rods with a diameter of 60 mm for mills were cast into dry molds from chromomagnesite. Billets of samples for determining the toughness were obtained by investment casting.
5. The machining of the workpieces was carried out after annealing according to the usual conditions for P6M5 steel.
520 540oC.The heat treatment of the tool included quenching with heating in a salt bath to a temperature of 1180 1225 o C and cooling in industrial oil and a double tempering at a temperature of 520 540 o C.
59 60.The heat resistance of the alloy was characterized by a change in the hardness of the heat-treated samples after 4 hours at a temperature of 610-620 o C and cooling in air to room temperature. The heat resistance of R5M5 steel, equal to 59 60, is accepted as a unit.
The durability of disk milling cutters and cutting tools made of P6M5 steel, which according to the test results was 40 and 420 min, respectively, was taken as a unit of tool life.
