Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the production of monocarbides of refractory metals, which can be used in the form of highly porous products of high chemical purity, for example, as filters, absorbents, catalyst supports.
2% (1). A known polymer composition containing refractory metal oxide, coal or soot, taken in an amount of 16-24% i.e. sufficient for the formation of carbide, and polyvinyl alcohol in the form of a 5% aqueous solution in an amount of 2% (1).
A disadvantage of the known composition is the high content of impurities in the resulting carbide in the form of residual oxygen (up to 0.5%), as well as the low strength of the initial workpieces, which does not allow to manufacture products with a ratio of sizes> 2.
The closest to the proposed technical essence and the achieved effect is a polymer composition comprising a refractory metal oxide, a phenol-formaldehyde binder and a filler of zinc stearate and soot, and the total amount of soot and a binder is sufficient for the formation of refractory metal carbide with appropriate heat treatment.
A disadvantage of the known composition is the content of impurities in the form of residual oxygen in an amount of 0.2-0.4% and low porosity of carbide 56-63%
An object of the invention is to increase chemical purity - reducing residual oxygen in carbides of refractory metals and obtaining products with increased porosity.
This technical problem is solved in that the polymer composition, including the refractory metal oxide, a phenol formaldehyde binder and a filler, contains a binder alcohol solution as a phenol formaldehyde binder, and hollow phenol formaldehyde microspheres as a filler in a binder to filler mass ratio (1.5-3.0) : 1, in the following ratio of components of the composition, wt.
9,0-15,3.Refractory metal oxide 61.3-72.8
Phenol formaldehyde binder (calculated on dry resin) 16.3-27.0
Hollow phenol-formaldehyde microspheres 9.0-15.3.
The use of hollow phenolic microspheres as a carbon carrier (filler) instead of soot in combination with a phenolic binder in an amount sufficient to form refractory metal carbide, allowed us to reduce the residual oxygen content in carbides from 0.2-0.4% to 0602-0.03% those. 6 to 20 times in comparison with the known solution.
(2100oC).The introduction of hollow phenolic microspheres allows you to create refractory products with a very uniform open porosity in volume, which reaches 75-90% with a ratio of the mass of phenolic binder to the mass of spheres in the initial composition equal to 1.5-3.0. Carbide products obtained from the composition according to the invention have sufficient strength and stable porosity at high temperatures (2100 o C).
X-ray analysis of the phase structure showed that the carbides obtained are single-phase without signs of separation into 2 phases.
The invention is illustrated by the following examples.
Example 1. Take the components in the following ratio: 64.0 g of zirconium dioxide, 21.6 g of phenolic binder (calculated on dry resin) in the form of a 50% alcohol solution, 14.4 g of hollow phenolic microspheres. The components are mixed, after drying, the components are pressed from the mixture, for example, cylinders with a diameter of 10 and a height of 16 mm, which are carbonized in an oxidation-protective environment by heating to 800 o C, and then carbidization is carried out in vacuum, heating to 1900-2100 o C. Properties the obtained samples of zirconium carbide are given in the table. Examples 2-7 differ in composition (see table). In examples 1-6, a phenol-formaldehyde binder bakelite varnish of the LBS-1 brand was used, which is an alcohol solution of a resin of a resol type, and in example 7
LBS-4 bakelite varnish, which is an alcohol solution of novolac type resin.
When the ratio of phenolic binder to microspheres is less than 1.5 (example 3), low-quality samples are obtained due to the lack of a binder, and when the ratio is more than 3 (example 4), low-tech compositions are obtained, clumping of the mixture is observed during drying, partial cracking of the samples during carbonization.
As follows from the above data, the polymer composition according to the invention allows to obtain refractory products with a porosity of 12-34% higher and an impurity content of 6 to 20 times lower than that of the prototype, while carbides are characterized by a regular porous single-phase structure throughout the volume due to the use of porous carbon carrier. From these compositions, bars and discs with a ratio of sizes 4-8 were obtained, i.e. more 2. Products have high dimensional stability and porosity at high temperatures.
