Claims (97)

1. An input device for inserting a catheter into a patient’s body, comprising: a housing;
at least partially a hollow needle extending distally from the body, and at least a portion of the catheter is initially located on top of the needle so that the catheter is located substantially outside the body;
guidewire; and
the extension unit, configured to selectively extend the distal end of the guide wire from the distal hole of the needle in preparation for the distal extension of the catheter, while the extension unit is additionally configured to provide selective extension of the catheter in the distal direction,
wherein the input device is adapted to be gripped by the user during use with one hand, and the user can extend the guide wire and the catheter through the extension unit with one hand.
2. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the extension assembly includes a support for the fingers, adapted for movement by the user to extend at least one of the guide wire and the catheter.
3. The input device according to claim 2, wherein the finger support is slidably mounted on the housing.
4. The input device according to claim 3, wherein the finger support is moved to the first distance to extend the guide wire from the distal hole of the needle, the finger support is moved to the second distance after moving to the first distance, to extend the catheter in the distal direction.
5. The input device according to claim 4, wherein the extension member is moved by the support for the fingers when the support for the fingers is moved to a second distance, the catheter being detachably attached to the extension member.
6. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the extension assembly includes a first element used to extend the guidewire and a second element used to extend the catheter, the user moving a finger, while quickly moving the finger from the first element to the second element does not require a significant change in the position of the finger.
7. The input device according to claim 6, wherein the first element is adapted to distal slip to a distal end point which is near the proximal starting point of the second element.
8. The input device of Claim 1, wherein the extension assembly is moved to a first distance to extend the guide wire from the distal hole of the needle, the extension assembly is moved to a second distance after moving to the first distance, to extend the catheter in the distal direction.
9. The input device according to claim 8, wherein moving the extension assembly to a second distance causes the catheter to move to the first partial distance, and as a result of the next user action, the catheter moves to its final position.
10. The input device according to claim 8, wherein after moving the extension assembly to the first distance, further extension of the wire guide is prevented.
11. The input device according to claim 8, wherein when the extension assembly is moved to a second distance, a full distal extension of the catheter occurs.
12. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the extension assembly includes the guide wire extension assembly and the catheter extension assembly.
13. The input device according to claim 12, wherein the wire guide extension member is configured to distally extend only the wire guide.
14. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the wire guide assembly includes a telescopic portion extending from the housing when the catheter is extended in the distal direction.
15. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the extension assembly further includes a needle protection element adapted to protect the distal needle tip after using the input device.
16. The input device according to claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the wire guide has a cross-sectional profile of a substantially rounded rectangular shape.
17. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the guidewire has a cross-sectional profile forming the first and second slots formed longitudinally along at least a portion of the length of the guidewire.
18. The input device according to claim 1, wherein the guide wire has a cross-sectional profile forming the first, second and third slots formed longitudinally along at least a portion of the length of the guide wire.
19. The input device according to claim 1, further comprising a continuous indicator of blood flow, configured to notify the user of the presence of blood in the needle lumen.
20. A needle assembly containing: a needle forming a needle lumen;
a first slot formed in the side wall of the needle to allow blood to pass through it from the needle lumen when the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient’s blood vessel; and
the indicator of blood flow, made with the possibility of indicating the presence of blood inside the lumen of the needle, and the indicator of blood flow includes a transparent chamber of blood flow, located around the needle with the coverage of the first slot and designed so that the blood present in the lumen of the needle, passes from the lumen of the needle through the first slot into the blood collection chamber so that the user of the needle assembly can see it.
21. The needle assembly of claim 20, wherein the blood flow chamber is hermetically sealed around the needle.
22. The needle assembly of clause 21, further comprising a second slot surrounded by a blood flow chamber, the second slot being adapted to equalize the air pressure inside the blood flow chamber.
23. The needle assembly of claim 22, wherein the second slot is located proximal to the first slot.
24. The needle assembly of claim 20, wherein the blood supply chamber is continuously filled with blood while the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient's vessel.
25. The needle assembly of claim 20, wherein the guide wire is located inside the needle lumen, wherein blood passes between the guide wire and the inner wall of the needle.
26. A needle assembly according to claim 20, wherein pointers are arranged in the vicinity of the blood flow chamber, which are configured to measure the amount of blood inside the blood flow chamber.
27. A needle assembly comprising: a needle forming a needle lumen;
a slot formed in the side wall of the needle to allow blood to pass through it from the needle lumen when the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient’s blood vessel; and
indicator of blood flow, made with the possibility of indicating the presence of blood inside the needle lumen, and the indicator of blood flow includes absorbent material located around the needle and made with the possibility of absorption of blood, which passes from the needle lumen through the slot so that the user of the needle assembly can see absorbed blood.
28. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the absorbent material is configured so that blood can continuously move along the absorbent material while the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient's vessel.
29. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the absorbent material has a substantially cylindrical shape and includes at least one of a natural material and a synthetic material.
30. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the absorbent material covers the slot and extends proximally from the slot along the outer surface of the needle.
31. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the absorbent material includes cotton and is closed with a lid.
32. The needle assembly of claim 31, wherein the cap includes a polymeric material.
33. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the absorbent material is configured to expand in at least one of the radial direction and the longitudinal direction after absorption of the liquid.
34. The needle assembly of claim 27, wherein the indicators are located near the absorbent material and are configured to measure the amount of blood absorbed by the absorbent material.
35. A needle assembly containing: a needle forming a needle lumen;
the indicator of blood flow, made with the possibility of indicating the presence of fluid inside the lumen of the needle, and the indicator of blood flow includes an elongated channel connected in fluid with the lumen of the needle, the channel forms the path through which the fluid present in the lumen of the needle, and the user of the needle assembly can see fluid passing along the path.
36. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein the fluid passes along the path while the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient’s vessel.
37. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein a channel is formed on the surface of at least one of the needle assembly and the medical device.
38. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein the path forms a winding path.
39. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein the needle assembly is included in a medical device, with a path being formed in the area of the medical device.
40. The needle assembly of claim 39, wherein the medical device is a catheter insertion device.
41. The needle assembly of claim 40, wherein the path is formed on the extension assembly of the catheter insertion device.
42. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein the pointers are located near the path and are configured to measure the amount of blood within the path.
43. Needle assembly according to claim 35, in which the path has the configuration of one of a helical, spiral, reciprocating, zigzag, with branches and a round shape.
44. The needle assembly of claim 35, wherein the channel is fluidly connected to the proximal end of the needle.
45. The needle shield for a needle assembly, comprising: a blocking element forming:
the hole through which the needle first passes;
spring element; and
cam tracking element; and a cam element adapted to engage with a cam follower element, the cam element being movable between a first position in which the cam presses the spring element so that the opening of the locking element is aligned with the longitudinal axis of the needle and the second position in which the cam no longer squeezes the spring element, so that the opening of the blocking element is not aligned with the longitudinal axis of the needle after removing the needle from the hole to avoid re-insertion needle through the opening.
46. The needle shield of claim 45, wherein the blocking element includes a flattened elongated bar, the cam tracking element including a hook-shaped portion located at the first end of the bar.
47. The needle shield of claim 46, wherein the spring member includes a wave-like portion of the bar located near the second end of the bar.
48. The needle shield of claim 45, wherein the cam element in the first position engages with a portion of the catheter assembly located in the needle portion, the cam member in the second position is released from the mesh with the portion of the catheter assembly.
49. The needle shield of claim 48, wherein the portion of the catheter assembly engaged by the cam member in the first position includes a cannula of the catheter assembly.
50. An input device for inserting a catheter into a patient’s body, comprising: a housing;
a cannula distally extending from the body, with at least a portion of the catheter initially located over the needle so that the catheter is located substantially outside the body;
guidewire;
site extension wire guide, which includes a lever wire guide, made with the possibility of selective extension of the distal end of the wire guide from the distal end of the needle; and
node extension of the catheter, configured to ensure the extension of the catheter in the distal direction,
wherein the input device is adapted to be gripped by the user during use with one hand, while the user can extend the guide wire and the catheter with one hand.
51. The input device according to claim 50, wherein the wire guide extension member includes a wire guide lever, including a finger rest, which is adapted for movement by the user to extend the wire guide.
52. The input device according to claim 51, wherein the finger support is slidably mounted on the housing.
53. The input device according to claim 52, wherein the finger support is moved to a first distance so that the wire guide moves the guide wire from the distal hole of the needle with the lever of the wire guide, the finger support is moved to the second distance after moving the first distance so that the wire guide guide to extend the catheter in the distal direction.
54. The input device according to claim 53, wherein the extension member is moved distally by means of a wire guide lever when the support for the fingers is moved a second distance, with the extension member initially being located essentially inside the body before the displacement, while the catheter is detachably attached to the extension member.
55. The input device according to claim 54, wherein the distal movement of the extension member causes the catheter to be moved distally to the first partial distance, and as a result of the user's next action, the catheter moves to the final position.
56. The input device according to claim 55, wherein at least one tongue is included in the extension member to allow the user to extend the extension member manually.
57. The input device according to claim 56, wherein the extension member includes a distal portion, wherein the distal portion includes first and second tongues for engagement, configured to release the catheter released in place over the needle before extending the extension member, while the needle initially located between the tongues for engagement, which causes the hooks to engage with the catheter, while the hooks for engagement are released from the engagement with the catheter after the distal extension of the and extension beyond the distal end of the needle so that the needle is no longer located between the tongues for engagement.
58. The input device according to claim 57, wherein the extension member is configured to protect the distal end of the needle after the complete distal extension of the extension member.
59. The input device according to claim 58, wherein the extension member includes one or more blocking reeds that engage with a body portion after full distal extension of the extension member to prevent the extension member from re-entering the housing.
60. The input device according to claim 59, further comprising a continuous blood flow indicator, configured to notify the user of the presence of blood in the needle lumen, comprising:
a first slot formed in the side wall of the needle to allow blood to pass through it from the needle lumen when the distal end of the needle is located in the patient’s blood vessel; and
the indicator of blood flow, made with the possibility of indicating the presence of blood inside the lumen of the needle, and the indicator of blood flow includes a transparent chamber of blood flow, located around the needle with the coverage of the first slot and designed so that the blood present in the lumen of the needle, passes from the lumen of the needle through the first slot into the blood collection chamber so that the user of the input device can see it.
61. The input device according to claim 60, wherein the blood flow chamber is hermetically sealed around the needle.
62. The input device according to claim 61, further comprising a second slot surrounded by a blood flow chamber, the second slot being adapted to provide for the second flow of blood present in the blood flow chamber into the needle lumen.
63. The input device according to claim 62, wherein the input device includes pointers configured to measure the amount of blood in the blood collection chamber.
64. The needle assembly of clause 63, wherein the pointers may include a plurality of ribs covering the distal portion of the pointers of the extension member near the blood entry chamber, wherein the user can see blood through the ribs in the blood flow chamber.
65. The input device according to claim 64, wherein the guide wire includes a proximal end attached to the body portion, a distal end initially positioned inside the needle, and an intermediate portion substantially forming a U-shaped bend.
66. The input device according to claim 65, wherein the distal end of the wire guide includes an atraumatic device including at least one of a J-shaped tip, an attached ball, a nimbus-shaped tip, and a twisted configuration.
67. The input device according to claim 50, wherein the wire guide follower assembly is configured to prevent the catheter from extending before performing the distal wire guide extension.
68. The input device according to claim 50, wherein the needle is secured inside the housing using a needle cannula, the needle cannula being made in one piece with the housing, wherein the needle cannula includes a pocket configured to accommodate an adhesive therein for fixing the needle in cannula needle.
69. The input device according to claim 50, wherein the catheter extending unit includes a plurality of outwardly extending wings configured to prevent the catheter extension member from re-entering the body after the distal catheter extending.
70. Needle assembly containing:
a needle forming the lumen of the needle, the needle being at least partially located in the body;
a slot formed in the side wall of the needle to allow blood to pass through it from the needle lumen when the open distal tip of the needle is located in the patient’s blood vessel; and
indicator of blood flow, made with the possibility of indicating the presence of fluid inside the lumen of the needle, and the indicator of blood flow includes absorbent material located around the needle and made with the possibility of absorption of fluid that passes from the lumen of the needle through the slot so that the user node needle can see absorbed liquid, and the absorbent material includes:
the first section located near the slot;
the second section attached to the inner surface of the housing; and
the section of the cable connecting the first and second sections of absorbent material.
71. The needle assembly of clause 70, wherein the needle is configured to retract into the housing, the cable portion being configured to rupture after retracting the needle so that the second portion of absorbent material remains on the inner surface of the housing.
72. The needle assembly of clause 70, wherein the body portion near the second portion of the absorbent material is transparent so that the user can see the fluid absorbed by the second portion of the absorbent material.
