A broadcast system comprising: a head node coupled to receive an input data stream via a broadcast channel containing a plurality of programs, said head node generating an output data stream containing said plurality of programs in an output format; the service information processor associated with the specified head node and receiving the specified input data stream via a broadcast channel, wherein said service information processor retrieves service information contained in each of said plurality of programs, wherein said service information refers to the program in which it is contained; a time shift server associated with said head node and said service information processor, said time shift server storing a copy of said plurality of programs and associating a storage location of each of said copies with service information associated with each of said programs; a transmission network connected to said head node and a time shift server, configured to transmit said output data stream to a plurality of subscriber devices and selectively transmit said copies of said plurality of programs to said subscriber devices; and a broadcast schedule server associated with said service information processor, arranging a schedule of received programs based on said service information. 32.
