Invenţia se referă la un soi de pepene verde (Citrullus vulgaris Schrad) diploid, cu denumirea de Alexandria, obţinut prin recombinare genetică, segregare, consangvinizare şi selecţie, având ca genitori soiurile tetraploide Crimson sweet şi Lovrin, recomandat a fi cultivat în Câmpia Română şi Câmpia de vest, pentru consum în stare proaspătă. Are 2x = 22 cromozomi, tulpina principală de 2,82 plus sau minus 0,03 m, numărul de ramuri pe plantă la sfârşitul perioadei de vegetaţie este 13,22 plus sau minus 0,19 şi pe o plantă se găsesc 282,16 plus sau minus 1,5 frunze la sfârşitul perioadei de vegetaţie. Frunza are lungimea de 10,81 cm şi lăţimea de 9,12 cm. Fructul are forma rotundă şi culoarea exocarpului verde deschis, cu nervuri longitudinale simple şi verzi. Sămânţa este lungă de 10,10 mm, lată de 6,15 mm şi groasă de 1,95 mm. Greutatea a 1000 de seminţe este de 62 g. Este un soi timpuriu, cu perioada de vegetaţie de 65 zile, rezistent la secetă, boli şi dăunători. Realizează o producţie de 39.450 kg/ha fructe.The invention relates to a diploid diploid watermelon (Alexandria), obtained by genetic recombination, segregation, inbred and selection, having as generators tetraploid varieties Crimson sweet and Lovrin, recommended to be cultivated in the Romanian Plain and Western field for fresh consumption. It has 2x = 22 chromosomes, the main strain of 2.82 plus or minus 0.03 m, the number of branches per plant at the end of the growing season is 13.22 plus or minus 0.19, and on a plant there are 282.16 plus or minus 1.5 leaves at the end of the growing season. The leaf has a length of 10.81 cm and a width of 9.12 cm. The fruit has the round shape and the light green exocarp color, with simple and green longitudinal ribs. The seed is 10.10 mm long, 6.15 mm wide and 1.95 mm thick. The weight of 1000 seeds is 62 g. It is an early variety, with a vegetation period of 65 days, resistant to drought, disease and pests. Produces a production of 39,450 kg / ha of fruit.
