Abstract
The invention relates to a variety of eggplants (Solanum melongena L.) known as Contesa, obtained by repeated individual selection, recommended to be cultivated in all areas favorable to the species in the south, south-east and southwest of the country for consumption, in fresh, and for industrialization. The plant has a semilaxed or narrow, medium-branched bush. The stem, shoots, leaf petioles, and fruit calyx are covered with mediumish bees, however, in color. The fruits are elongated cylindrical shape with a slightly pointed tip, are purple - dark and have a good uniformity. The Contesa variety has a good production capacity (39.4 t / ha of fruit), exceeding the control variety by 18.2%. It is an early variety (118 ... 120 days vegetation period), with good behavior against the attack of the main pathogens affecting the eggplant culture. Contesa variety fruits have a white, smooth texture, bitter taste.
