Abstract
The process comprises esterification with higher aliphatic acids. The products, of formula (I) have R as a residue of a higher monocarboxylic aliphatic with a normal chain C3-C6, C8,C10, or of acids with a branched chain C5 iso, C2-C4 (2-ethyl butyric) and C2-C6 (2-ethyl hexanoic). The azeotropic synthesis employs a 20-50 per cent aliphatic acid excess and 1-3 per cent of acid catalyst (sulphonic benzene acid, sulphonic p-toluene acid or H2SO4) with reagent:benzene, toluene or xylene. Reflux boiling for 1.5-3 hours permits purification and final decolouring.
