Abstract
Corks are treated under an ozone atmos. for at least 15 mins. pref. 15 mins. to 8 hrs. esp. 30 mins. to 2 hrs. Amt. of ozone is at least 0.5 ppm, pref. 0.15 to 0.75 ppm esp. 0.02 to 0.50 ppm, and reaction is in closed container esp. anodised aluminium. The source of ozone is e.g. a radiating bulb/lamp. The other object is to remove trichloroanisole present in the corks, previously treated with chloride prods., using ozone atmos. under the same conditions as above, this taking place simultaneously with the cork disinfection. The removal of the trichloroanisole prevents the corks from giving a 'cork taste' to the wine.
