Cu extn. from Cu-, Fe- and S-contg. ores, by leaching ores with an aq. soln. contg. Fe3+ salts and H2SO4, removing dissolved Cu from leach and oxidising the Fe2+ to Fe3+ ions in raffinate obtd. and recycling this soln. to ore-leaching step, is carried out by a process in which the dissolved Cu is removed from soln. by means of a liquid organic ion exchanger and raffinate is simultaneously set to Ph 1.3-2.1 (1.5-1.9). During oxidn. of Fe2+ to Fe3+ ions, Fe2+ content is kept no lower than 0.2 g/l at pH 1.7, 0.5 g/l at pH 1.5 and 8 g/l at pH 1 and pH of the leach flowing from ores is set to 2.5. Used for Cu extn. from Cu-contg. pyrites, sulphidic Cu ores or their concentrates.
