Pod dzialaniem wody zwlaszcza goracej, do roztworu przechodzi zarówno wolny formaldehyd znajdujacy sie w wyprasce jak i formaldehyd pochodzacy z odszczepionych grup metylolowych. Analogiczne zjawisko ma miejsce pod dzialaniem srodków spozywczych zwlaszcza zawierajacych wode.
