Description
PLIt is known to separate suspensions of solids such as kaolin from aqueous fluids by the action of an electric current; these are so-called electroosmotic processes. For this purpose, low-voltage steels are sometimes used. Analogous experiments carried out in much less conductive media, which are actually insulators, do not give positive results when using this method, for example, a suspension of fine-crystalline paraffin in petroleum oil or asphalt contained in the form of colloidal solution in crude oil distillates, they do not separate under electroosmosis by means of low voltage current. The present invention is intended to separate such suspended solids as paraffin in paraffin oil or asphalt contained in crude oil, its distillates or reductions and the like in colloidal form, that is, suspensions in highly electrically poorly conductive or non-conductive liquids. Experiments have shown that an analogous electroosmotic effect can be obtained at such times using very high voltages of at least 1000 volts and practically up to thousands and tens of thousands of volts or even more. The electric current used here must be unidirectional, but not necessarily a direct current, as it is sufficient if a pulsating current rectified in one direction is used. In some cases, where the conductivity of the medium is extremely low, it is advisable to add minimal amounts of bodies to the processed liquid. , or aqueous or anhydrous solutions which form the appropriate ions in this medium.
