W niepęczniejącej warstwie wycina się jeden lub więcej rowków, aby odsłonić część zewnętrznej powierzchni elementu uszczelniającego. Warstwa niepęczniejąca jest skonfigurowana tak, aby uniemożliwić połączenie płynu między płynem pęczniejącym umieszczonym na zewnątrz warstwy niepęczniejącej i częściami zewnętrznej powierzchni elementu uszczelniającego pokrytego warstwą niepęczniejącą.
