Poprzeczne łożyskowanie magnetyczne charakteryzuje się tym, że nieruchoma tuleja kołnierzowa (3) umocowana jest w obudowie (2) i ma kołnierz (3a) skierowany w stronę wału (1), natomiast ruchoma tuleja kołnierzowa (4) umocowana jest na wale (1) i ma kołnierz (4a) skierowany w stronę obudowy (2). W komorze utworzonej pomiędzy nieruchomą tuleją kołnierzową (3), a ruchomą tuleją kołnierzową (4), umieszczone są nieruchome magnesy trwałe (5) z ramionami skierowanymi w stronę wału (1), osadzone w nieruchomej tulei kołnierzowej (3) i przedzielone niemagnetycznym pierścieniem dystansowym (7) oraz ruchome magnesy trwałe (6) z ramionami skierowanymi w stronę obudowy (2), osadzone w ruchomej tulei kołnierzowej (4) i przedzielone niemagnetycznym pierścieniem dystansowym (8). Ramiona nieruchomych magnesów trwałych (5) i ruchomych magnesów trwałych (6) usytuowane są względem siebie biegunami jednoimiennymi N-N i S-S.
