W ce¬ lu podwyzszenia temperatury miekniecia sto¬ sowane sa rózne dodatki, miedzy innymi wi- nyloweglowodory aromatyczne, np. winylonaf- talen. Przyklad. '¦ • -. ilowego I 6 09 fMJOil OF THE POLISH PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC PATENT DESCRIPTION No. 38488 KI. 39 IP ^ Warsaw University of Technology (Department of Organic Technology I) *) Warsaw, Poland Manufacturing method of styrene copolymerization product with high softening temperature The patent lasts from September 16, 1954. Polystyrene has a relatively low softening temperature, which significantly limits its application practical. Various additives, including aromatic vinyl hydrocarbons, such as vinyl naphthalene, are used to increase the softening temperature. For this purpose also styrene derivatives with a ring substituent are used. addition of dichlorostyrene to styrene makes it possible to obtain a material with a softening temperature of around 112 ° C. However, such additives have a chemical nature analogous to styrene and do not result in secondary reactions leading to the improvement of the properties of the material. It was found that by polymerization of styrene with a small amount of hydroxystyrene, and in particular the meta isomer, a copoly- *) is obtained. The patent owner stated that the inventor is (& WlóZimierz Dahlig. , for example, urotropine, can be converted into a polycondensate with a higher softening point than polyclinrene. Example: Copolymerization of 10 g of styrene with 0.2 gm of hydroxystyrene is carried out under the same conditions as for the polymerization of styrene. It is made with 0.1 g of urotropin and then pressed while warm. The resulting material has a softening temperature of the order of 11 0 ° C. The analogously determined softening temperature of polystyrene is about 90 ° C. The hardening process can be carried out during the final step of the molding of the shape, e.g. during injection
