Abstract

Provided are: a steel plate for use as a cap, equipped with sufficient strength and moldability, and suitable for molding into a cap even when thin; and a method for producing the same. This steel plate for use as a cap is characterized by: having a component composition containing, in mass pcnt , C in the amount of 0.002-0.010 pcnt , inclusive, Si in the amount of 0.05 pcnt or lower, Mn in the amount of 0.05-0.30 pcnt , inclusive, P in the amount of 0.030 pcnt or less, S in the amount of 0.020 pcnt or less, Al in the amount of less than 0.0100 pcnt , and N in the amount of 0.0050 pcnt or less, wherein the C content exceeds 0.003 pcnt when the Al content is at least 0.005 pcnt , with Fe and inevitable impurities constituting the remainder; and exhibiting a yield strength in the rolling direction of 500MPa or higher, and an average Lankford value of 1.3 or higher.
