Abstract

Provided is a glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium, which suppresses the fluttering displacement at the time when the magnetic recording medium is rotated at a high speed in the magnetic disk device ang also improves the shock resistance of the magnetic recording medium. A glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium of the invention has a disk shape, has a circular through hole at a center thereof and has one pair of main surfaces facing to each other, in which, in the main surfaces, a clamp area including a position to be fastened with a fastening member at the time when the magnetic recording medium is fixed to a hard disk drive has a flatness of 1 um or less and a thickness deviation of 0.3 um or less.
