Abstract

Un proceso para recuperar niquel, cobalto y cobre mediante el coprocesamiento de la alimentacion de concentrados de sulfuro que contienen uno o mas de arsenico, antimonio y bismuto, y alimentacion de mineral de laterita que contiene niquel y cobalto mediante lixiviacion oxidativa a presion. El concentrado de sulfuro y el oxigeno se controlan para producir acido sulfurico para lixiviar el niquel, el cobalto, el cobre y las impurezas solubles en acido en una fase liquida de una lechada de lixiviacion acida, para precipitar los compuestos de hierro y la mayoria del arsenico, el antimonio y el bismuto como solidos, y para producir calor para calentar la alimentacion entrante a una temperatura superior a 230 °C. La lechada reaccionada se retira, los solidos se separan y la solucion PLS contiene el niquel, el cobalto, el cobre y las impurezas solubles en acido. Una primera etapa de purificacion de la solucion en el PLS neutraliza el acido libre, precipita uno o mas de hierro, aluminio, cromo y silicio, y separa como solidos las impurezas precipitadas y otros solidos de una primera solucion purificada. El cobre se separa de la primera solucion purificada con una etapa de extraccion con disolventes para producir una solucion de refinado reducida en cobre y una fase organica cargada de cobre. La fase organica se reextrae y el cobre se recupera mediante electroobtencion. Una segunda etapa de purificacion de la solucion se lleva a cabo en el refinado mediante una o ambas de la neutralizacion del acido libre y la precipitacion de uno o mas de hierro, aluminio, cromo y silicio, seguido de la separacion como solidos de las impurezas precipitadas y otros solidos de una segunda solucion purificada. El niquel y el cobalto se recuperan como hidroxidos mixtos o sulfuros mixtos de la segunda solucion purificada.
