The present invention relates to the production of ointment based extracts of Metracarpus scaber for the treatment of animal and human dermatoses. The product of this invention has a proven curative effect in the treatment of dermatoses both in humans and in domestic animals and more specifically bovine dermatophilosis.

This exudative, chronic, relapsing dermatitis, characterized by the formation of crusted lesions on the body of cattle, is of a characterenzootic character in tropical areas such as Benin. It rains especially during the rains and is due to a polymorphic bacterium. Animals treated with oxytetracycline heal but remake the disease every rainy season. The local treatment of dermatophilosis with penicillinea-based ointments was a failure. In Benin, oxytetracycline and penicillin-procaine, which are the antibiotics used by injection, do not completely cure this condition.

In order to find other more efficient and less expensive means, various plants used in traditional medicine to treat various dermatoses have been tested in diseased animals with localized lesions of chronic or progressive dermatophilosis. Mitracarpus scaber has been shown to be particularly effective on this dermatitis. The genus Mitracarpus belongs to the family Rubiaceae, Mitracarpus scaber Zuccar; or Mitracarpus villosus (Sw). is called in Benin Godokwe Fon. -3-

In Benin, Mitracarpus scaber is found almost in all areas of cultivation from south to north. In traditional medicine, the macerate of the whole plant is used in the local treatment of dermatoses by direct application. Aqueous decoction of the aerial parts is also administered orally in hepatic affections, dyspepsia, constipation and oral and digestive candidoses.

Mitracarpus scaber has previously been the subject of phytochemical studies to identify substances related to its antimicrobial and pharmacological activities. The phytochemical studies that we carried out, allowed us to identify in our extracts the azaranthquinone, the gallic acid and the acideursolic which are more active on D. congolensis responsible for this dematosis, compared to the effect of the oxytetracycline.

The preparation of this product necessitated the identification of Mitracarpus 15 scaber, the sample of which was deposited at the National Herbarium of Abomey Calavi University. The harvested plant is spread, sorted and dried for 4 to 5 days in room at room temperature, and oven-dried overnight before being reduced to powder for the preparation of the extracts. The extracts obtained are mixed with shea butter and then homogenized to obtain an ointment placed in jars and kept at room temperature. * V;

The ointment is applied backwards 2 to 3 times a day depending on whether it is hard, chronic crustal lesions or progressive oozing lesions. The application is followed by a light massage which allows the penetration of cream in crusty areas. who heal after the fall of the crusts.

012538 -6- CLAIM 1- The ointment, prepared with extracts of Mitracarpus scaber and butter butter effectively treats several animal and human dermatoses. 2- This therapeutic activity, according to claim 1, results from the fact that the extracts of Mitrarcarpus scaber have a proven antimicrobial effect on several agents <5 responsible for animal dermatoses. 3- According to always claim 1, the shea butter contained in the product promotes penetration and infiltration of the product in the crusts. 4- According to claims 2 and 3, the characteristic of this ointment is water that it destroys the agents responsible in the crusts it softens or in the lesions. According to claim 4, the product characteristic is to cause the crusts to start as early as the third day. This ointment according to claims 4 and 5 is characterized by the fact that its application leads to the rapid healing of erythema and underlying wounds after the crusts have fallen off. 7- This product, according to claim 6 is characterized by its repulsive effect for flies and other insects. 8- It follows from claims 6 and 7 that the characteristics of the lotion prevent superinfections of wounds or lesions. 9-According to claim 8, the rapid hair regrowth in eight to ten days, which becomes complete in three to four weeks, characterizes this product.
