Abstract

longitudinally elongated nogging track to engage at least one stud. The nogging track including a longitudinally extending base. A side flange is fixed to and extending from the base so that the side flange extends longitudinally parallel to the base while extending transversely from the base at an angle relative to the base. A base flange is fixed to the base, the base flange being movable between a first position at which the base flange is substantially co-planar with respect to the base, and a second position at which the base flange extends from the base for engagement with a respective one of said at least one stud. The nogging track also includes a brace, the brace having a first position at which it is substantially co-planar with respect to the base, and a second position at which the brace extends from the base to the base flange to aid in retaining the base flange in the base flange second position. The nogging track can be fixed to a face of the stud that is parallel to the base when the base flange is in the first position, or it can be fixed to a face of the stud that is perpendicular to the base when the base flange is in the second position.

CLAIMS :
1. A longitudinally elongated nogging track to engage at least one stud, the nogging track including: a longitudinally extending base; a side flange fixed to and extending from the base so that the side flange extends longitudinally parallel to the base, while extending transversely from the base at an angle relative to the base; a base flange fixed to the base, the base flange being movable between a first position at which the base flange is substantially co-planar with respect to the base, and a second position at which the base flange extends from the base for engagement with a respective one of said at least one stud; and a brace, the brace having a first position at which it is substantially co-planar with respect to the base, and a second position at which the brace extends from the base to the base flange to aid in retaining the base flange in the base flange second position.
2. The nogging track of claim 1, wherein the base flange in the second position extends generally perpendicular from the base.
3. The nogging track of claim 1 or 2, wherein the track has apertures through which threaded fasteners pass to secure the track to an adjacent stud or studs.
4. The nogging track of claim 3, wherein one of said apertures is formed in the base flange.
5. The nogging track of claim 1, wherein an aperture is formed in the brace, to be aligned with an aperture formed in the base flange so that a threaded fastener may pass through the brace, base flange for engagement with an adjacent stud.
6. The nogging track of claim 5, wherein the base flange is configured to extend generally perpendicular to the base, and the brace inclined to the base flange and base by an acute angle when said apertures are aligned so as to receive the threaded fastener.
7. The nogging track of claim 5 or 6, wherein the aperture formed in the brace is elongate.
8. The nogging track of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the side flange extends longitudinally between a pair of abutment end edges. AH25(44124789_2):CAOGL
9. The nogging track of any one of the preceding claims, including a pair of said side flanges fixed to and extending from the opposite lateral sides of the base.
10. The nogging track of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the nogging track is formed of a single strip of steel.
11. The nogging track of claim 10, wherein the single strip of steel is cut, punched and deformed to provide the nogging track .
12. The nogging track of any one of the preceding claims, including an attachment zone for attachment of the track to said stud.
13. The nogging track of claim 12, wherein the attachment zone includes a respective base flange and brace.
14. The nogging track of claim 12 or 13, including a plurality of longitudinally alternating attachment zones and longitudinally extending side flanges, each attachment zone for attachment of the nogging track to a respective stud.
15. The nogging track of claim 14, comprising a plurality of attachment zones, some of which may be located at the ends of the track, while others are located intermediate the ends.
16. The nogging track of claim 8 wherein longitudinally adjacent side flanges are spaced by a dimension corresponding to the transverse width of the stud.
17. The nogging track of claim 16 wherein tabs are located between the end edges and are co-planar with respect to the base and extend laterally from the base.
18. The nogging track of claim 17, wherein the tabs include apertures to allow threaded fasteners pass therethrough to secure the track to an adjacent stud or studs.
