Device to Regenerate Room Air

The invention concerns a device to regenerate room air, especially in buildings.

Prior art particle filters consisting of various materials such as textiles, papers and fleeces, etc., are used to purify the air in rooms from dust and other impurities, and ionizing or ozonizing components are used to eliminate harmful gaseous and vaporous air contents as well as bacteria, molds, etc. that use large glass tubes with dielectricaily impeded discharges. The prior art devices have the disadvantage that the unscented neutralized air strikes the user as odd.

US 5 904 896 discloses a multi-stage system for eliminating pollutants in the air, comprising successively a first electrostatic filter, a microfibre filter, an absorbent unit for gases and a further particle filter in the air flowpath wherein an ozone generator is arranged between the second filter and the absorbent. Air which is purified of pollutants by such a system can then be enriched again by injected, odour masking or neutralising substances or aromatics.

FR 25 10 891 discloses a method and a device for purifying air by ozone. In order to avoid an undesirable or harmful ozone concentration which can be contained in the purified air, alternately with the ozonizing of the air, a perfume is given off simultaneously or independently thereof. It is the purpose of the perfume not only to scent the air but also to destroy the ozone left in the purified air.

The problem of the invention is to create a device that disinfects and descents smell-bearing particles, gases or vapors, bacteria, germs, etc., and allows the air to be functionally scented.

The invention solves this problem by a device with a housing with a first room unit (a) with numerous openings for supply air and exhaust, a motor-driven impeller to form a flow, an ionizing and ozonizing component assigned to the flow that functions based on dielectricaily impeded discharge, a supply air filter and a sorption catalyst as an exhaust filter for the blower air, and a connected second room unit (b) with a blower to form an independent air flow that passes through supply air openings and exhaust openings of a container to capture itficLLECTd'-L FROFckW OFFiC:

formed by a branched partial flow of the flow used in the room unit (a).

clathrates and scent-bearing substances. According to the invention, this stre

The device forms a portable mobile assembly in which the air-born pathogens inactivated by oxidation in an air regeneration process using an ionization and ozonizing component, and the clathrates and aromatics eliminate smells and generate a positive emotional response in users. Of course, depending on the different levels of pathogens in the room air, the ionization and ozonizing component can be adjusted to generate different levels of ions and ozone with various levels of high voltages preferably formed by high-frequency generators, and the scenting can be adjusted using any desired scents with different intensities, characters and compositions. In addition, it is also suggested that the blowers in the room units (a) and (b) are controllable to change the air volume and/or speed and/or pressure.

In another preferred embodiment of the device, the first (a) and second (b) room units are in a single-piece housing. It is also possible to put the two room units (a) and (b) in joined, independent housing parts that are combined to form a functionally single housing unit by means of a screw, plug-in and/or clamped or glued connection.

In another embodiment of the device, the ionization or ozonizing component is equipped with a flat assembly module that advantageously adapts the ion and ozone production to the quality of the supplied air when the basic load fluctuates to reliably destroy gases, vapors and other pollutants and largely avoid excess ozone. Of course, the ionizing and ozonizing component can alternately be operated with any other suitable air ionizer such as a Siemens ionization tube.

Finally, the device provides designing the supply air filter as a particle filter made of any material such as textile fabric, fleece, etc., and the sorption catalyst can be an active charcoal filter or any other suitable catalyst that destroys excess ozone and prevents the emission of ozone into the room air.

The invention is illustrated by an exemplary embodiment in the drawing. 1 indicates a housing that consists of a back part 1', a front part 1" and a mounted part 1"' that together form a first room unit (a) and a second room unit (b). The front part 1" of the room unit (a)

has numerous supply air openings 2 for a flow identified by the arrow 3' that exits into the top of the back part 1' via exhaust openings 3. In the direction of flow following the supply air openings 2 is a particle filter 4 in room unit (a) that can be made of paper, fabric or fleece. In addition, the room unit (a) holds an impeller 6 driven by an electric motor 5 to generate the flow 3', and an ionizing and ozonizing component 7 such as a flat assembly module that operates using dielectricaily impeded discharge. The ions and ozone generated by the ionizing and ozonizing component 7 serve to sterilize the flow 3' from pathogenic germs, bacteria, smells, etc.. The excess ozone that is not required for sterilization is fed to a sorption catalyst 8 in front of one of the exhaust openings 3 that can be followed by a sensor to show the air quality. The sorption catalyst 8 is an active charcoal filter in the exemplary embodiment.

In the second room unit (b), there is an impeller 10 that can be rotated by an electric motor 9 that generates an air flow via supply air 11 and exhaust openings 12. In addition, the room unit (b) holds a container 13 with clathrates and aromatics through which air passes. Deodorants, perfumes, disinfectants, etc. can be used as the aromatics. 14 and 15 designate actuators for the switch (not shown) for the electric motors 5 and 9.

The device neutralizes the air by freeing it of harmful particles by oxidizing gaseous and vaporous pollutants by ionizing and ozonizing them, and neutralizes the excess ozone in the sorption catalysts 8. The device in the second room unit (b) preferably scents the air.

The combined regeneration and scenting of the air using a single mobile device can be used advantageously as desired in industrial rooms, hotels, hospitals, waiting rooms and private rooms.
