Abstract

A lead-acid battery comprises a container, at least one positive plate and a negative plate disposed within the container; a separator disposed within the container and separating the positive and negative plates and an electrolyte. The positive plate comprises a grid supporting structure having a layer of active material pasted thereto. The grid supporting structure comprises a lead-based alloy consisting essentially of lead, from 0.02% to 0.06% calcium, from 2% to 2.5% tin, and from 0.01% to 0.02% silver. The percentages are based upon the total weight of the lead-based alloy.
