Abstract

A battery management system (40) for a battery (80) having a plurality of cells (81 to 86) includes a microprocessor for controlling the operation of the battery management system, according to preset individual cell testing and charging functions. There is also an individual cell monitor having a separate conductor to the junction of each cell to measure the cell voltage. The measurements are then converted into digital signals to be fed into the microprocessor. Then, according to the present functions, a charge is effected to an appropriate cell.
