Abstract

Methods and compositions are described for the generation of transgenic non-human animals, i.e., bovines. The method involves the introduction of exogenous nucleic acid sequences into the genome of unfertilised eggs (e.g., pre-maturation oocytes and pre-fertilisation oocytes) by microinjection of an infectious retrovirus into the perivitelline space of the egg. Such methods provide an increased efficiency of production of transgenic animals with a reduced rate of generating animals that are mosaic for the presence of the transgene.
