Abstract

A frequency synthesizer includes a phase-lock-loop with a programmable frequency divider and a controller that determines the average fractional division values for the divider. Each division value includes selected integer and fractional parts. The range of variation of the selected fractional part is not limited to {0,1}. The fractional part may be negative and may have an absolute value greater than 1.
